It is not an expansion requiring the original ELDEN RING: it launched on May 30, 2025, supports solo play as well as squads of three, and has no crossplay between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
What was announced at The Game Awards?
The Game Awards broadcast on December 12, 2024 introduced ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN. Bandai Namco published its dated announcement the following day, December 13, describing the game as a “standalone multiplayer co-op action survival” experience. Its tagline was “As Night Falls, We Rise in a New ELDEN RING Adventure.” Bandai Namco’s announcement framed it as a separate adventure in a universe parallel to the events of ELDEN RING.

The premise centers on Limveld, an ever-changing map where players face a sequence of increasingly dangerous nights. Players choose from eight unique characters called Nightfarers. A run spans three day-and-night cycles: the map contracts as the Night’s Tide closes in, a boss appears at the end of each night, and the third night culminates in a battle against a Nightlord. Relics earned after failed runs can be used to customize and upgrade characters.
Is Nightreign a DLC or a standalone game?
It is a standalone game, not DLC for ELDEN RING. FromSoftware’s release information explicitly says it can be played without owning the original game. The announcement’s shared setting and familiar series name do not make it an expansion.

When did it release, and on which platforms?
ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN launched worldwide on May 30, 2025. The listed platforms are PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, according to Bandai Namco Europe’s launch guide and FromSoftware’s release announcement.
Can you play solo, and does it have crossplay?
Solo and co-op
The reveal emphasized cooperative squads of three, but solo play is supported. The game is built around multiplayer runs, so solo is an option within a co-op-focused design rather than a separate single-player campaign.

Crossplay
There is no crossplay between different platform families: PlayStation players cannot join Xbox or PC players. Within a console family, PS4 and PS5 users can play together, as can Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S users. Bandai Namco Europe’s launch guide does not describe broader cross-platform multiplayer.
What does The Forsaken Hollows add?
The Forsaken Hollows is a separate, available DLC expansion. It adds two playable Nightfarers, Scholar and Undertaker; two new third-day bosses; additional areas and threats; and a Shifting Earth condition that changes Limveld’s layout. Availability is listed for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in Bandai Namco’s DLC announcement. What editions were announced?
FromSoftware’s February 2025 release information described Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions. The Japanese product information lists PS5 and PS4 package versions. Its Collector’s Edition includes the game, a 25 cm Wylder statue, a 40-page hardcover art book, a SteelBook, character cards, DLC, and a digital soundtrack; the Deluxe Edition includes a digital art book and mini-soundtrack. Those edition details and any listed prices are Japan-specific, not a universal offer. Physical contents and availability can vary by region, so check the local listing and confirm the platform and included DLC before buying.
