Heolstor is a strong candidate for Elden Ring Nightreign’s hardest standard Nightlord, but there is no official difficulty ranking—and the answer changes with party size, expedition preparation and which bosses you include. This ranking compares the seven standard Nightlords in three-player co-op, the mode Bandai Namco says the game is primarily balanced around. It judges how readable and punishable each fight is, the pressure it puts on a party, and how much coordination or preparation it demands. It is an editorial assessment, not a measured player-stat ranking.
How this ranking works—and what it covers
The list covers the standard third-day Nightlord showdowns, not every boss or variant in Nightreign. The Forsaken Hollows DLC adds two third-day bosses, while Deep of Night and its encounter conditions are a separate challenge. Those encounters are not ranked here, so this list should not be read as a complete ranking of every boss available in the game.

The ranking assumes a three-player party with comparable progression and ordinary expedition preparation. That choice matters: Bandai Namco’s Official Starter Guide, published June 17, 2025, says Nightreign is “primarily balanced for cooperative multiplayer sessions with two other players” (Bandai Namco’s Official Starter Guide). Solo and two-player fights can feel substantially different, and a poor run can make any showdown harder.
These positions weigh four practical questions: How clearly can players read and punish attacks? How costly are mistakes, including damage and status effects? How much sustained or multi-target pressure can disrupt a party? How much do coordination and preparation affect the outcome? There are no verified comparative win rates, death rates or completion-time statistics to turn those judgments into objective scores.

#1 Best Overall
- Elden Ring: Nightreign - Seekers Edition /PS5
The standard Nightlords ranked from hardest to easiest
1. Heolstor, the Nightlord
Heolstor takes the top spot because the final showdown asks a party to stay composed through a demanding, high-pressure encounter. Mistakes can quickly interrupt a team’s damage and recovery rhythm, and success depends on players recognizing openings while staying ready for the next threat. A third-party guide also calls Heolstor the hardest Nightlord, but that is one guide’s view—not a consensus or a statistical finding. Its coverage describes itself as launch-version material and was updated May 9, 2026, so it should not be treated as a definitive current verdict (Nightreign Guide’s Heolstor guide).
2. Gladius, Beast of Night
Gladius earns a high placement for the disruption and pressure of its fight. The party has to keep track of a shifting threat rather than settle into a simple damage routine; players who lose sight of their role or the boss’s position can give up openings and recoveries. Strong coordination helps, but the ranking is a judgment about the fight’s demands rather than a claim that every group will find it harder than the bosses below.
3. Gnoster, Wisdom of Night
Gnoster’s encounter stands out for the extra attention it asks from the whole party. When pressure comes from more than one direction, it is harder to focus fire, choose safe recovery windows and keep everyone contributing. Teams that call targets and avoid splitting their effort have an advantage; less coordinated groups may find the same fight much more chaotic.
4. Libra, Creature of Night
Libra can be a difficult test of composure. Its encounter can punish parties that approach every moment as a damage race, so players need to read what is happening and adjust rather than repeat a single plan. That situational demand makes the fight more variable than a straightforward exchange, though experienced groups may handle it more consistently.

5. Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow
Fulghor can keep a party under pressure, especially when players struggle to coordinate their attacks and recoveries. The fight is challenging, but its demands are easier to manage when teammates stay attentive to one another and avoid letting individual mistakes become a team-wide collapse.
6. Maris, Fathom of Night
Maris is capable of disrupting a team’s rhythm, but the encounter is less demanding on coordination than the bosses ranked above. Keep the group’s attention on the fight, choose openings carefully and avoid treating a brief lull as permission to ignore incoming pressure.
7. Adel, Baron of Night
Adel ranks as the most approachable of the standard Nightlords in this three-player assessment. That does not make the showdown harmless: a party that arrives underprepared or loses focus can still struggle. The lower placement means its overall demands are more manageable by comparison, not that it is a guaranteed win.
Why a different party may get a different ranking
Nightreign’s expedition structure makes boss difficulty inseparable from the run that leads to it. Players explore Limveld for two days, face mandatory night encounters, then fight a Nightlord on day three. Bandai Namco’s Gameplay Guide, published February 12, 2025, recommends accumulating experience during the day; it also points players to the Roundtable Hold training ground to practise controls and combat in expedition conditions.
Rank #3
- Elden Ring: Nightreign /PS5
- Solo play: Bandai Namco says players can attempt the game alone, but its guidance identifies three-player co-op as the primary balance target. A solo ranking would therefore need its own assumptions rather than simply reusing this order.
- Two-player play: With one fewer teammate, there is less room to divide attention and cover mistakes. How heavily that affects a given fight depends on the players and their run.
- Randomized preparation: The expedition leading into a showdown affects progression and available preparation. A ranking that assumes comparable runs cannot predict the difficulty of every individual attempt.
- Skill and team habits: Familiarity with a boss, communication, role coverage and willingness to adapt can change which encounter feels toughest to a particular group.
What about The Forsaken Hollows and Deep of Night?
The Forsaken Hollows was announced as available December 4, 2025. Bandai Namco says it adds two third-day bosses, field bosses, a Shifting Earth, and the Scholar and Undertaker Nightfarers (official DLC announcement). Those third-day bosses are outside the standard-boss ranking above.
The DLC’s Balancers encounter has specific unlock requirements: defeat Tricephalos and one other main-game boss, and make Scholar and Undertaker playable. Bandai Namco also says DLC additions may appear in Deep of Night when all three matched players own the DLC (official DLC unlock guide). Because those requirements and Deep of Night conditions differ from the standard showdowns, folding them into one numbered list would blur unlike encounters.
Patch context: why rankings need a date
Encounter balance and behavior can change. Bandai Namco’s version 1.03.2 notes, published January 15, 2026, list Nightfarer balance adjustments, changes to Deep of Night target-boss appearance rates for DLC content, and fixes involving Dreglord, Balancers, Divine Beast Dancing Lion and other encounters (version 1.03.2 patch notes). Those notes establish that updates can affect the game; they do not establish that version 1.03.2 is the latest build on October 8, 2026. Check the title-screen version or a newer official notice for the build you are playing.
There is no official universal hardest-boss order. One guide’s preference for Heolstor is useful context, not proof, and player discussions reflect individual experience rather than representative results. This ranking is best understood as a reasoned comparison of standard third-day showdowns for a three-player party, not a promise that every team will experience them in this order.
