The game’s original announcement described three-player co-op, alongside single-player support; the mod offers a community route for groups of two rather than an official duo mode.
Can two people play Nightreign?
FromSoftware’s February 12, 2025 announcement described Nightreign as “A co-op action survival game that reforms aspects of ELDEN RING’s game design into a brand-new experience” and listed three players, with single-player also supported. That is the player-count information in the announcement, not confirmation of every later game update. The Seamless Co-op (Nightreign) listing, by creator Yui, documents a way to play with two people through a community mod.

Players in a May 31, 2025 Steam discussion described the appeal as being able to play with a friend when they did not have a third person. That is anecdotal community feedback, not evidence that duo play was measured as the game’s “biggest complaint.”
What the Nightreign co-op mod supports
The Nexus Mods page identifies Seamless Co-op (Nightreign) as a multiplayer enhancement mod. As displayed on October 8, 2026, it lists version 1.12 and a last update of July 2, 2026. Its change log mentions a fix for duo scaling customizability and options for adjusting scaling. The page also notes compatibility with game version 1.02.1; that note does not establish compatibility with every later game patch.

According to the listing, players need the same mod version and game version, a Steam sign-in, and Steam invites to join one another. Random matchmaking is not supported by the mod; the page directs players seeking random matchmaking to vanilla Nightreign.
How to set up duo play
The following steps reflect the mod author’s published instructions. Both players need to complete the setup and use matching versions.

- Download Seamless Co-op (Nightreign) from the Nexus Mods listing. The page says no other mods are required.
- Extract the mod into the Nightreign game folder.
- Sign in to Steam on both PCs. Steam offline mode is not supported for this setup.
- Check that both players have the same game version and mod version.
- Launch the game with
nrsc_launcher.exe. - Use Steam to invite the other player.
The listing’s historical compatibility note names game version 1.02.1. Check the mod page for its current compatibility information before updating or troubleshooting; the listed note alone does not verify support for a newer game patch.
What duo scaling means
The mod page says its scaling settings are percentages of the vanilla game’s scaling formula per additional player. They are not a direct percentage increase to enemy health. The author notes that many basic camp enemies have no vanilla scaling, so changing the setting may be most noticeable against mini-bosses and bosses. The page documents customizable scaling, but does not establish one universally best setting for every duo.

Save files, matchmaking, and safety caveats
The mod author says the mod uses save files separate from the unmodded game and prevents connections to FromSoftware matchmaking servers. The author also describes the mod as not bannable in its stated configuration. These are the creator’s claims, not an independent security review or a guarantee for altered setups or future versions. If you modify the mod or use a different configuration, the listing’s safety statement may not apply.
The author’s page also describes a temporary workaround for Everdark bosses and Endless Night because those features involve FromSoftware matchmaking servers. It requires communication with GitHub and may fail in places where GitHub is blocked.
Platforms and availability
The documented setup uses Steam and is therefore aimed at PC players. FromSoftware’s February 2025 announcement listed Steam among the supported platforms and said the packaged standard edition was available only for PS5 and PS4. That announcement does not verify current retail inventory or later platform changes.
