If Elden Ring Nightreign cannot find teammates or matchmaking fails, first install the latest game update, then restart the game. On PlayStation or Xbox, also log in to the game server and check that the regulation version is current. Confirm your console account can use online multiplayer. These checks address common prerequisites, but they cannot guarantee a fix for every queue or network error.
Start with the low-risk checks
- Update the game. Check for an available update on your platform and install it before trying online play. Bandai Namco’s Hotfix 1.03.5 notice, published March 31, 2026, says the update is required to play online. That is a dated notice, not confirmation that 1.03.5 remains the newest version in October 2026; check the latest official announcement for a newer patch.
- Restart after updating. Once the patch has installed, close and relaunch the game before re-entering matchmaking.
- On PlayStation or Xbox, refresh regulation data. Log in to the game server so the console can download regulation files. Compare the displayed regulation version with the latest official patch notice. If it is outdated, select LOGIN to apply the latest regulation data.
- Check console online multiplayer eligibility. FromSoftware’s official FAQ says PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass is required for online multiplayer and asynchronous online features on those consoles. Single-player does not require that subscription. Plan names and eligibility terms can change, so confirm your current account’s access with your platform provider.
Identify what is actually failing
“Matchmaking failed,” “Failed to Join Team,” “A network error occurred,” and “can’t find any players” are phrases players use to describe problems, not a current official error-code list. Record the exact on-screen wording rather than assuming each phrase points to a separate known cause.

For PC startup or installation problems, verify Steam files
Use this check if Nightreign will not start or an installation appears damaged. It is not a proven fix for a queue that cannot find teammates.
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Elden Ring Nightreign and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify Integrity of Game Files and let Steam complete the check.
The publisher’s known-issues guidance associates file verification with PC startup problems. FromSoftware’s FAQ also describes it in a DLC installation context. Neither source establishes it as a general matchmaking solution.

What to know about teams and platform compatibility
FromSoftware describes Nightreign as designed around three-player cooperative play, while also supporting one-player and two-player play. The official sources reviewed list the game on PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam, but do not establish cross-platform matchmaking. Do not assume that players on different platform families can join one another.
If matchmaking still fails
Restarting matchmaking has been reported as advice for a stuck queue, but it is not a guaranteed remedy. A July 2025 report described that suggestion; it should be treated as a low-risk attempt rather than a confirmed fix for every current failure. See GamesRadar’s report.

If the issue continues after the applicable checks, contact Bandai Namco support or Steam Support for PC assistance. Include:
- Your platform and region.
- The exact error text, if any.
- The game version and, on console, the displayed regulation version.
- Whether you cannot find players, cannot join a formed team, or cannot start or install the game.
- When the issue occurs and the checks you have already tried.
Those details help separate a search or team-joining failure from an update, installation, or access problem. The official sources cited here do not provide a current exhaustive error-message matrix or establish live outage status.
