Yes. Elden Ring Nightreign supports solo expeditions, and you can play them online or offline. To go alone, choose an expedition at the Roundtable Hold table, open Matchmaking Setting, and set Expedition Type to Single player. Bandai Namco says the game remembers that choice until you change it.
How to start a solo expedition
- Choose whether to play online or offline. For offline play, go to System > Network and select Play offline. Solo play itself does not require you to be offline.
- At the Roundtable Hold, select an expedition at the expedition table.
- Open Matchmaking Setting and set Expedition Type to Single player.
- Begin the expedition. The setting persists for later expeditions until you change it. These steps follow Bandai Namco’s solo-player guide, published 30 May 2025.
Being online does not put other players in your Roundtable Hold; Bandai Namco’s guide says you are alone there even when connected. Cooperative multiplayer does require an internet connection, according to the publisher’s official starter guide.

What changes when you play alone?
Bandai Namco documents two accommodations for solo expeditions: enemies have reduced HP, and shops sell Wending Grace, which allows one revival after death. These mechanics support solo runs, but they do not establish that solo is categorically easier; they are not a complete measure of the challenge.
Going solo also means there are no teammates to coordinate Nightfarer abilities with or to share expedition responsibilities. If you prefer to make every choice yourself, that may suit you; if you want the group dynamic, the game offers multiplayer options too.

Solo fits the expedition structure
Nightreign is organized around expeditions rather than an open-ended solo campaign. An expedition moves through two preparation-and-boss cycles before the final Nightlord encounter:
- Day 1: Explore and gather resources.
- Night 1: Fight a boss.
- Day 2: Explore and prepare again.
- Night 2: Fight another boss.
- Day 3: Face the Nightlord.
Bandai Namco’s launch overview describes the three-day-and-night cycle, in which teams balance combat and exploration as the map changes. The 4 December 2025 announcement for The Forsaken Hollows says unsuccessful runs still grant relics, which can customize and augment characters. A failed expedition, then, can still contribute to progression.

Solo, duo, or three-player expeditions?
Co-op is not limited to three-player expeditions. Bandai Namco’s Duo Expeditions guide, dated 31 July 2025, documents player-count settings for solo, duo, or two other players. The practical choice is whether you want to run the expedition alone, coordinate with one partner, or play in a three-player group.

Is there a solo mode?
Yes: select Single player as the expedition type. The official product page also labels Nightreign as both single-player and multiplayer. Solo is a supported way to take on the expedition loop, not a separate game or a promise that the experience will suit every player.
