The Forsaken Hollows, the first DLC for Elden Ring Nightreign, drew negative Steam reviews in December 2025. Players criticized its lack of new weapons, with some expecting weapons and other content from Shadow of the Erdtree. The available official materials do not show that those weapons were promised.
What The Forsaken Hollows adds
Elden Ring Nightreign is a standalone co-op survival action game, and The Forsaken Hollows is a separate DLC for it. Bandai Namco’s listing describes two additional Nightfarers, two Day Three bosses, one new Shifting Earth, and more. The base game is required to access the expansion; the DLC is not included with a physical copy of the base game. Steam’s product listing and Bandai Namco’s game page provide the official details.

The Steam listing gives December 3, 2025 as the release date. Bandai Namco Europe’s prelaunch announcement used December 4, reflecting regional date presentation rather than necessarily indicating an error. The European announcement is the relevant reference for that regional date.
Why players criticized the DLC
The backlash centered in part on the absence of new weapon content. Some players also expected weapons, Ashes of War, or spells associated with Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. GamesRadar reported user criticism along those lines on December 4, 2025, while Game8 cited the lack of new weapons among reasons for the mixed reception in its December 10 report. These reports document player expectations and complaints; they do not establish that FromSoftware or Bandai Namco had promised those items.

What the December 2025 Steam reviews showed
The reported percentages are snapshots from different dates, not competing measurements of a single fixed score. Game8 said 51% of Steam reviews were negative on December 10, 2025. GamesRadar reported 46% positive on December 4, an earlier snapshot. Review totals and sentiment can change over time, so neither figure should be treated as the DLC’s current rating.

These percentages describe Steam review sentiment at the time of each report. They do not measure all players or establish that the negative reviews resulted from coordinated review-bombing.

There was also a distinct issue involving weapons. Bandai Namco Europe’s version 1.03.1 patch notes, published December 17, 2025, say a bug prevented some enemies added in The Forsaken Hollows from dropping appropriate weapons when defeated, and that the bug was fixed. That was a problem with drops from particular enemies—not the broader complaint that the DLC did not add new weapon types. Read the version 1.03.1 notes.
