Skyrim on Switch 2 Had Serious Input-Lag Complaints—Bethesda Says It Fixed the Issue

Launch-period players called Skyrim on Switch 2 sluggish or unplayable, but Bethesda says it fixed an input-latency issue in a December 19, 2025 update. The later update 1.2 added visual- and performance-priority modes.

Players reported severe input lag in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 around launch, but Bethesda says it fixed an input-latency issue in an update on December 19, 2025. The complaints describe how the game felt to individual players; they are not controlled measurements, and the available sources do not establish that every player experienced the problem.

What players said about Skyrim’s Switch 2 input lag

In December 2025, GamesRadar relayed launch-period complaints from players who described the port as sluggish or unplayable in both handheld and docked play. One anonymous player estimated “nearly a full second of delay after each input”; another wrote, “The input lag is horrendous. I genuinely can’t play the game with it in its current state. Both handheld and docked.” These are individual impressions quoted by GamesRadar on December 10, 2025, not a measured latency benchmark.

The reports explain why some fans called the game “unplayable,” but the cited coverage provides no formal latency test, sample size, or estimate of how widespread the issue was. It does not establish that handheld and docked play were affected equally for all players.

Did Bethesda fix the Switch 2 input-latency issue?

Bethesda Support states: “In an update on December 19, 2025, we have fixed an issue that caused input latency for Skyrim players on Switch 2.” That is Bethesda’s stated status for the issue it identified; it is not a published latency measurement or a guarantee that every player’s experience is identical. See Bethesda Support’s latency notice.

This chronology matters: the “unplayable” reports describe the launch-period experience, while Bethesda’s current support notice says the identified input-latency issue was fixed in December 2025.

What was the early Gestures Attack workaround?

While investigating, Bethesda reportedly advised players to pause the game, open Settings > Gameplay, and switch Gestures Attack off. GamesRadar reported that as temporary advice during the investigation. It is historical workaround guidance, not Bethesda’s final fix or a substitute for the December 19 update. The original coverage is GamesRadar’s report.

What changed in the later Switch 2 update?

TechRadar reported on February 19, 2026, that update 1.2 added a choice between visual and performance priorities. The report describes the visual-priority mode as locked at 30fps and the performance-priority mode as having a higher cap of 60fps, with some visual fidelity traded for performance. These are reported mode caps and update details, not independent test results in this article. TechRadar also says the first patch addressed input latency; that is separate from the later mode choice. See TechRadar’s update 1.2 report.

Reported mode Reported frame-rate target or cap Trade-off
Visual priority Locked at 30fps, according to TechRadar’s February 19, 2026 report Prioritizes visual fidelity
Performance priority Higher cap of 60fps, according to the same report Trades some visual fidelity for performance

Which Switch 2 features are advertised?

Bethesda’s Switch 2 feature listing names improved resolution, faster loading, performance optimizations, mouse support for the left and right Joy-Con 2, and DLSS anti-aliasing. Those are advertised features; Bethesda’s listing does not attribute the latency fix to any one of them. Details are on Bethesda’s Skyrim page.
