A January 2025 leak pointed to a May 15 release for DOOM: The Dark Ages. Bethesda later confirmed that date, and the game launched on May 15, 2025.

Did the leak get the release date right?

Yes. Nintendo Life reported on January 22, 2025, that a Gamekult article appeared prematurely and listed May 15 as the release date. That account is secondary reporting on how the date surfaced; the exact original page and its publication history are not independently established here. Nintendo Life’s report described May 15 as a seeming leak.

Microsoft and Bethesda publicly confirmed the date on January 23. Bethesda’s support FAQ now answers “What is the official launch date for DOOM: The Dark Ages?” with May 15, 2025. The date was therefore not merely a plausible rumor: it matched the official launch date. Bethesda Support’s launch-date FAQ

Where did DOOM: The Dark Ages launch?

Bethesda lists Xbox Series X|S, the Xbox App for Windows PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5. Xbox’s game page also presents Battle.net and Game Pass as play routes. What kind of DOOM game is it?

DOOM: The Dark Ages is a prequel to DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal, developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. Xbox describes its setting as a medieval war against Hell and highlights the Shield Saw, Super Shotgun, exploration, Atlan mech, and Mecha Dragon. Those are publisher descriptions of the game, not independent assessments. Xbox’s game page

In Xbox Wire’s January 23, 2025 Developer Direct recap, game director Hugo Martin described the combat as more grounded than DOOM Eternal and called the concept “an appealing power fantasy that’s new but familiar.” That was a launch-era promotional description, rather than a review. What should PC players check before buying?

Bethesda’s PC requirements say a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU is required even at minimum settings. For a higher target, the requirements list 1440p at 60 FPS on high settings with a ray-tracing-capable GPU and 10 GB of dedicated VRAM or better. The Ultra 4K/60 FPS target calls for at least 16 GB of dedicated VRAM, 32 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB or larger NVMe SSD with 100 GB available. These are targets in Bethesda’s published requirements, not a guarantee of identical performance on every system. Check the current requirements page before purchasing or upgrading, as specifications can be updated. Bethesda’s PC requirements

What did the launch-era campaign description promise?

In an April 25, 2025 PlayStation Blog post, Martin called the game “a premium single-player campaign” and said it had 22 levels. He also highlighted the Shield Saw, flail, new weapons, and an action-focused story. These are the game director’s promotional statements, not independent measurements or review findings. The post said Premium Edition purchasers could begin playing as early as May 13, ahead of the standard May 15 launch. PlayStation Blog’s April 25, 2025 post
