Dragon Age: The Veilguard was reported as Steam’s top-selling game on November 1, 2024, ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. That was a position on Steam’s sales chart—not a published count of copies sold, and not proof that the game became EA’s best-selling title. The comparison with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor concerns concurrent players, a separate metric.
What “topping Steam” means
TechSpot reported on November 1, 2024, that The Veilguard had displaced Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 at the top of Steam’s sales chart. GameSpot also reported the game’s chart position that day. A chart rank indicates relative sales performance in Steam’s ranking at that time; neither report gives an exact Steam unit-sales total. TechSpot · GameSpot
So the title’s “best-selling” wording is defensible only with that date and platform in view: it was Steam’s top-selling game in a November 1 chart snapshot. It does not establish that it was EA’s best-selling game overall, or that it outsold Jedi: Survivor in lifetime copies.
How its concurrent-player peak compared with Jedi: Survivor
The player-count comparison reported by TechSpot was 70,414 concurrent players for The Veilguard versus 67,855 for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Those figures are concurrent-player peaks, not copies sold. TechSpot attributed the Veilguard figure to SteamDB and described it as the game’s first-day peak. TechSpot

The time window matters. Guinness World Records later recorded The Veilguard at 89,418 concurrent Steam players on November 3, 2024, during its opening weekend. That later figure is higher because it captures a different point in the launch period; it does not conflict with the first-day report. Guinness World Records
What the BioWare launch record does—and does not—show
Guinness identifies the 89,418-player peak as the record for BioWare’s most popular Steam launch. The same record entry lists 59,817 concurrent players for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, BioWare’s previous Steam launch record. These are launch-player figures, not sales rankings. The record does not make The Veilguard BioWare’s best-selling game by units. Guinness says Dragon Age: Inquisition had sold over 12 million units and remained the studio’s best-selling game. The record page does not state when that cumulative total was reached, so it should not be treated as a current audited sales figure. Guinness World Records
What the available sales estimate says
A separate estimate appears in InvestGame’s Q4 2024 industry report: VG Insights estimated 1 million units and $48 million in gross full-game sales for The Veilguard in its Q4 2024 release-period row, excluding microtransactions. Why Steam figures cannot settle the broader sales question
The Veilguard released on October 31, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Steam rankings and Steam concurrency describe only activity on that PC storefront; they do not count sales through other PC stores, console sales, or EA’s total game sales. GameSpot
Historical comparisons on Steam also have a platform-availability caveat. GamesRadar notes that EA stopped releasing games on Steam in 2011 and returned in 2019, so Steam launch counts cannot show how older BioWare releases would have performed there had they launched on the platform. GamesRadar
