To get the Auroral Helm in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, bring Ortega’s Helm and Zenithium to the dwarf at the Shrine of the Dwarf. The ore is obtained in Gaia’s Navel with a second Wrecking Ball: first speak to the marked man in Quagmire Cave, then collect the ball in Reeve.
Before you start
You need Ortega’s Helm and a Wrecking Ball. The route below follows JulieSu’s user-authored GameFAQs trophy guide, version 1.01, updated January 11, 2025; the item exchange is also summarized by the Dragon Quest Wiki. The guide’s optional suggestion to use Holy Water is for speeding up the return trip, not a requirement.
- Ortega’s Helm
- A second Wrecking Ball, collected in Reeve
How to get Zenithium
- Speak to the marked man in Quagmire Cave. Find him at the end of the tunnel; the guide says he has a “!” marker over his head.
- Collect another Wrecking Ball in Reeve. Go to the northeastern building and speak to the man on the second floor—the same man who gave you a Wrecking Ball earlier.
- Return to Lanson and enter Gaia’s Navel. Repeat the trial to reach the dungeon’s lower levels.
- On B3, follow the south path that winds clockwise. At its end, use the Wrecking Ball to obtain Zenithium.
Have the dwarf reforge Ortega’s Helm
Take Ortega’s Helm and Zenithium to the dwarf at the Shrine of the Dwarf. Speak to him and, after the scene, you receive the Auroral Helm. It is a reforge, not a helmet found ready-made in a chest.
What the Auroral Helm changes
The Dragon Quest Wiki lists the Auroral Helm at +76 Defence and +20% Zap-family spell power. However, reforging Ortega’s Helm removes its protection against status ailments. The choice therefore depends on whether the Defence and Zap boost matter more for your current encounter than that protection; the cited item description mentions newly added accessories as a possible way to mitigate the loss but does not identify a specific accessory.
