Its first named game, Farhaven, is designed around that idea—but the studio’s design goal is not proof that the game has already become a social hub for young players.
What Dragon Snacks Games means by a “third place”
The studio’s concept is social rather than technical. It wants a game to be a place where friends can gather, make things together, and maintain a shared world—not only a product they play through individually. Dragon Snacks Games put it this way in its official announcement: “We think games can be third places, the spaces outside of home, work, and school where we spend unstructured time with people who matter to us.” Dragon Snacks Games’ Farhaven announcement
The company’s founders introduced this thesis when the studio emerged from stealth in April 2025. In a GamesBeat interview, they argued that younger audiences’ entertainment habits and expectations were changing, and that cooperative play, multiplayer, and player-led creation could help games meet social needs. Those are the founders’ views, not independently established demographic findings. Cofounder Jen MacLean said, “We need to stop building games for the players we had five years ago and concentrate our creativity on the players of today and tomorrow.” GamesBeat’s 2025 interview with Dragon Snacks Games
How Farhaven is meant to work as a social space
Farhaven is the studio’s first concrete expression of the idea: a cooperative sandbox RPG for PC, described as a “FriendMO.” Rather than a very large public population, the studio envisions a private, persistent world for a chosen group of friends or family. Its announcement says a world can host up to 16 players. Dragon Snacks Games’ Farhaven announcement

A shared world with different ways to spend time
Players can build and decorate homes and a town, farm, fish, cook, craft, take town jobs, explore generated adventures, fight, and form relationships with townsfolk. This mix is central to the social-space pitch: a group can spend time together in activities that are not all combat or competition.
Progress that can continue between play sessions
The studio says one player’s actions can open opportunities for the town and other members of the group. In principle, that lets people contribute even if they do not log in at the same time: one person advances a shared project, and others can encounter the result later. That is a description of the intended design, not a verified account of how players have experienced it.

What is known about Farhaven’s status
As of GamesBeat’s September 1, 2026 report, Farhaven was in alpha and playable, with a target release in Q2 2027. The date is a target, not a guarantee, and development plans can change. GamesBeat’s September 1, 2026 report
Dragon Snacks Games reported more than 300 public playtest sign-ups and an average play session of approximately 50 minutes. Those are studio-reported figures cited by GamesBeat and in the studio announcement; they are not independent measurements of the game’s social impact. The sign-up count and session-length figure do not establish whether players have formed lasting communities or whether the game is especially appealing to young people.

What the “third place” claim does—and does not—show
The phrase is best read as Dragon Snacks Games’ design thesis, not a formal game category or an established result. The available reporting explains what the studio hopes to build and describes Farhaven’s planned features. It does not independently establish how many young people want games to serve as third places, or show that Farhaven has already filled that role.
That distinction matters because a persistent world, private group size, and asynchronous progress are design choices; whether they produce connection depends on how people actually use the game. For now, “third place” tells readers what the studio is aiming for: a smaller, friend-centered shared world that can keep accumulating activity between visits.
