What changed with the name?
FIFA 23 was released as part of the EA SPORTS FIFA series. EA announced FC 24 as its first game under the EA SPORTS FC name, describing it as a new chapter for the brand. The change is significant for the series’ identity, but the title did not become an unrelated football game: FC 24 continues EA’s football series with familiar modes and an evolving set of gameplay systems.

How different is the gameplay?
FC 24 adds HyperMotionV and PlayStyles
EA presented HyperMotionV as FC 24’s major animation and motion-capture technology. The company said it used volumetric data from more than 180 top-tier matches and powered more than 11,000 animations. PlayStyles add distinct abilities that go beyond a player’s overall rating; PlayStyles+ are enhanced versions of those effects. EA also highlighted an enhanced Frostbite engine. These features are not available uniformly across platforms: HyperMotionV is limited to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
FIFA 23 had already made a technology leap
FIFA 23 introduced HyperMotion2 on new-generation platforms and PC, with Technical Dribbling, AcceleRATE, and other gameplay mechanics. EA reported more than 6,000 authentic animations for that game. The comparison is therefore between successive feature sets—not a technology-focused FC 24 and a technologically basic FIFA 23.

What changed in women’s football?
Women’s football was already part of FIFA 23. That game added women’s club teams and later included the men’s Qatar 2022 and women’s Australia and New Zealand 2023 World Cup tournaments as post-launch content. FC 24’s notable change was bringing women footballers into Ultimate Team, where they could be included alongside men’s players. FC 24 also introduced Evolutions and added Icons and Heroes to the mode.
How does cross-play differ?
FIFA 23: selected modes, same-generation play
FIFA 23 supported cross-play in selected modes, including FUT Rivals, FUT Champions, online drafts, friendlies, and Online Seasons. It grouped players by console generation, and EA said Pro Clubs was not included at launch.

FC 24: more eligible modes, still not universal
FC 24 extended cross-play to additional modes, including Clubs, Co-op Seasons, VOLTA, and Ultimate Team co-op, alongside eligible online modes from FIFA 23. The platform groups remain separate: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC play together, while PS4 and Xbox One form another group. Nintendo Switch is excluded from cross-play. So “expanded cross-play” is accurate; “full cross-play” is not.
Which version should you compare on your platform?
Check the platform before treating a feature as part of every FC 24 edition. HyperMotionV is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, not across all platforms. Cross-play also depends on the platform group and mode, with Switch excluded. EA’s launch announcement lists more than 19,000 licensed players, 700 teams, and 30 leagues for FC 24, but those roster figures do not mean every platform receives the same technology or cross-play options.

Is FC 24 better than FIFA 23?
The documented differences establish what EA added, not an objective gameplay-quality ranking. FC 24 is the more feature-expanded choice if you want PlayStyles, women in Ultimate Team, or cross-play in more modes and are playing on a supported platform. FIFA 23 still has its own major additions, including HyperMotion2, women’s club football, and the two World Cup tournaments. Which feels better to play depends on personal preference; EA’s feature announcements do not settle that question.
