Niantic defines falsifying location as “spoofing” and lists it as cheating. The compliant way to join some distant raids is to use the game’s Remote Raid Pass and invitation features—not to teleport around the map.
What Niantic’s rules say about GPS spoofing
Niantic’s Player Guidelines explicitly list “Using tools or techniques to alter or falsify your location (‘spoofing’)” as cheating. Its Gameplay Fairness Policy likewise defines cheating to include falsifying GPS location and accessing game clients or backends through unauthorized third-party software or add-ons.

That means a location-changing app, tool, or technique is not an approved travel feature, whether you play on iPhone or Android. The official policies do not provide an approved spoofing method or a cooldown that guarantees you will avoid a penalty.
How Pokémon GO enforcement works
Niantic describes progressive discipline, but the sequence is not a guarantee that every player receives three warnings. Its policy outlines these strikes and approximate periods:

The same policy says some behavior may lead to immediate termination rather than three strikes. The Player Guidelines also say violations may result in degraded gameplay, suspension, or permanent termination, sometimes without warning. Niantic says it uses automated systems and user reports to identify violations; that general statement does not establish a specific GPS-spoofing detection method or detection probability.
Why “soft ban” tips and cooldown charts are not guarantees
Niantic’s official guidance does not establish a safe cooldown, a detection rate, or a travel pattern that makes falsifying location safe from enforcement. Community cooldown charts should not be treated as official rules or guarantees. A temporary gameplay restriction is not permission to spoof, and avoiding one restriction would not establish that an account is safe from later action.

iPhone and Android requirements do not permit spoofing
Pokémon GO requires GPS and Location Services on both iOS and Android, according to Niantic’s supported-device guidance. That page lists iOS 15 or later and Android 9 or later, at least 2 GB of RAM, and an internet connection; it also says jailbroken iOS devices and rooted Android devices are unsupported. Device requirements can change, so check the live support page for current compatibility. These requirements describe supported play, not permission to falsify your location.
Join eligible distant raids without changing your location
Remote Raid Passes and friend invitations are official options for participating in eligible raids from elsewhere. They let you join a raid remotely; they do not move your avatar to another point on the map.

- Use a Remote Raid Pass: Niantic says you can join eligible raids that appear in Nearby or that you can tap on the map. Check the in-game raid details and current help guidance for pass requirements and availability.
- Accept a friend’s invitation: A Trainer at a raid can invite friends regardless of their location. You still need to meet the game’s current remote-raid requirements and limits.
Remote raid rules and availability can change. Review Niantic’s guides to joining battles remotely and inviting friends to raid battles, and follow the requirements shown in the game.
