KOEI TECMO has documented a Steam crash fix for Dynasty Warriors: Origins, but it did not say that every Steam Deck crash is resolved. A separate Steam Deck update fixed graphical distortion with AMD FSR3 enabled—not crashing. If your game still closes or freezes, start with SteamOS updates and the troubleshooting steps below.
Is Dynasty Warriors: Origins crashing on Steam Deck fixed?
Not universally, based on the publisher’s update notes. KOEI TECMO’s official update history records two distinct fixes:
- Steam version 1.0.0.4, February 6, 2025: “Fixed a bug that was causing the game to crash under certain conditions.” The note does not identify those conditions or say all crash causes were fixed.
- Steam version 1.0.0.7, April 23, 2025: fixed graphical distortion when AMD FSR3 was enabled on Steam Deck. This is a graphics fix, not a crash fix.
The same update history lists Steam version 1.0.1.2 on February 17, 2026, with minor bug fixes; that entry does not specifically mention crashes or Steam Deck. So an older documented crash bug was addressed, but the official notes do not establish that every current Deck crash has a known cause or solution.
What to try when the game crashes
Work through these general Steam Deck troubleshooting steps in order. They are not guaranteed fixes for this particular game; change one thing at a time so you can tell what affects the problem.

- Install SteamOS updates and restart. Open Steam > Settings > System > Software Updates, install any available update, then restart from that screen or choose Steam > Power > Restart. Valve recommends updating and restarting for system instability in its Steam Deck Software Info & Troubleshooting Guide.
- Temporarily disable third-party Desktop Mode apps. Exit or disable applications you installed through Desktop Mode, then restart the Deck and test the game again. Valve includes this as a general instability troubleshooting step in the same guide.
- Check compatibility settings. From the game’s Steam library page, open its settings and select Properties > Compatibility. Check the Deck verification information and, if you are testing Proton, try the latest version Valve recommends rather than an arbitrary older release. Valve notes that forcing compatibility can make Steam download the Windows version if only the Linux version was installed; allow that download to finish before testing.
- Lower graphics settings if the game fails under load. If it launches but crashes during demanding gameplay, try a lower graphics preset or reduce individual settings. Record the original values so you can restore them. Valve lists reducing graphics settings among general steps for app stability and performance issues.
- Check the symptom if the problem is visual distortion. If the image is distorted and AMD FSR3 is enabled, make sure the game is updated: KOEI TECMO says Steam version 1.0.0.7 fixed that specific Steam Deck graphics issue. That note does not identify distortion as a cause of crashes.
What information to give support if it still crashes
If none of those steps helps, report the issue through the game’s Steam support page, which lists KOEI TECMO as the developer and publisher and links to its customer support. Include details that can help distinguish a startup failure from a crash during play:
- When it crashes: at launch, during a particular action or mission, or after playing for a while.
- The game version or build shown by Steam.
- Your SteamOS version and update channel.
- Whether you changed the Compatibility setting or selected a Proton version.
- Whether disabling Desktop Mode apps or lowering graphics settings changed the behavior.
These details matter because the update notes do not identify the conditions behind the historical crash fix, and the available official guidance does not name one cause for every current Steam Deck crash.
