GameStop announced on July 28, 2021, that it planned to rebrand EB Games locations and its online store in Canada as GameStop by the end of that year. The announcement is historical: GameStop later said it was selling its Canadian business and that the EB Games name would return.
What GameStop announced in 2021
The July 28, 2021 announcement covered EB Games stores across Canada and the Canadian online store. GameStop said it expected the transition to be completed by the end of 2021. The release announced a plan and timeline; it did not publish a figure for how many locations were involved or quantify the feedback behind the decision. Read GameStop’s announcement.

Why EB Games was changing its name
GameStop attributed the decision to feedback from customers and stockholders. The company’s release stated: “This decision follows our receipt of feedback from our valued customers and stockholders.” It did not identify a specific speaker or provide details measuring or explaining that feedback.
