The buyers—Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners—agreed to an approximately $55 billion enterprise-value transaction. EA stockholders received $210 in cash for each share they owned at closing.
Did EA get bought out?
Yes. The acquisition closed on August 4, 2026, according to Electronic Arts’ closing announcement. It is no longer a pending deal: EA’s stockholders had approved the agreement on December 22, 2025, and the closing release says the company’s common stock ceased trading and would be delisted from NASDAQ.
Who bought Electronic Arts?
The acquiring consortium consists of PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. Under the merger structure, EA became a wholly owned subsidiary of Oak-Eagle AcquireCo, Inc. The SEC-filed merger agreement and transaction announcement identify Oak-Eagle AcquireCo as the parent and Oak-Eagle MergerCo, Inc. as the merger subsidiary.
How much did EA sell for?
The transaction’s announced value was approximately $55 billion in enterprise value. That figure is not the amount paid directly to each stockholder: the announced cash consideration was $210 per EA share. EA described the $210 price as a 25% premium to its $168.32 closing price on September 25, 2025, the last fully unaffected trading day before the announcement, and above its cited unaffected all-time high of $179.01 at the August 14, 2025 market close. Those comparisons come from EA’s September 2025 transaction announcement.

EA described the agreement as the largest all-cash sponsor take-private investment in history. The Associated Press also called the completed transaction the largest-ever buyout funded by private equity. Those descriptions refer to sponsor take-private or private-equity buyout scale, not to every type of merger or acquisition.
What does $210 a share mean for EA shareholders?
Stockholders received $210 in cash for each share they owned at closing. Because the transaction has closed and EA shares ceased trading, investors cannot buy or sell EA common stock on NASDAQ as a public-company share. The $55 billion enterprise-value figure should not be read as a per-share payout or as the cash each shareholder received.

How was the buyout financed?
When the agreement was announced in September 2025, the parties described an expected financing structure of approximately $36 billion in equity investment and $20 billion in committed debt. They said $18 billion of that debt was expected to be funded at closing. The expected closing funding is not a verified final amount, and the announcement’s figures describe the planned financing rather than a later audited breakdown.
PIF had already held a 9.9% stake in EA and planned to roll that stake into the transaction, according to the September 2025 announcement.

What happens to EA games now?
The change in ownership does not, by itself, establish that a particular game, release plan, staffing level, price, or creative decision has changed. EA’s closing announcement describes its business as developing and delivering games, content, and online services for consoles, mobile devices, and PCs. Its listed franchises include EA SPORTS FC, Battlefield, Apex Legends, The Sims, Madden NFL, College Football, Need for Speed, Dragon Age, Titanfall, Plants vs. Zombies, and EA SPORTS F1. The release reports approximately $7.5 billion in GAAP net revenue for fiscal year 2026.
At closing, EA Chairman and CEO Andrew Wilson said: “Together, we’ll invest boldly, accelerate innovation, and build the next generation of games and experiences for the hundreds of millions of players and fans who inspire us every day.” That is the company’s stated intent, not evidence that specific future changes have already occurred.

Could private ownership mean layoffs or other changes?
The Associated Press reported differing analyst views: some saw private ownership as potentially giving EA more freedom from public-market pressure, while others pointed to the debt financing as a possible reason for cost reductions or layoffs. These are reported concerns and possibilities, not confirmed outcomes. The cited closing information does not establish post-acquisition layoffs, changes to franchises, release plans, or creative control.
