If EA SPORTS Cricket 07 opens to a black screen and closes, or quits after a few seconds on Windows 11, start by testing Windows compatibility settings on cricket07.exe. Try Windows XP (Service Pack 3) first, then Windows 8 or another earlier mode if needed. These are reversible suggestions from Microsoft-hosted support threads, not guaranteed fixes; the reports do not establish one cause for every PC.
Try compatibility settings on cricket07.exe
Make one change at a time, then launch the game to see whether its behavior changes. That makes it easier to undo a setting that has no effect.
- Find the game executable. Open the folder where Cricket 07 is installed and locate
cricket07.exe. One Microsoft-hosted support answer givesC:Program Files (x86)EA SportsCricket 07as a usual location, but your folder may differ depending on how the game was installed. Microsoft Q&A: Cricket 07 crashing after a black screen. - Set Windows XP compatibility. Right-click
cricket07.exe, choose Properties, open the Compatibility tab, and select Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3). Apply the change and try launching the game. This was suggested by a Microsoft Community Support Specialist in a Cricket 07 thread on December 29, 2023; users in the support threads also reported unsuccessful attempts, so treat it as a test rather than a proven fix. Read the support thread. - If XP mode does not help, test another mode. Return to the same Compatibility tab and try Windows 8, or an earlier version offered in the menu. A separate Microsoft-hosted answer suggests this approach. Apply one mode at a time and test after each change. Microsoft Q&A: EA Cricket 07 not working in Windows 11.
- Test 640 × 480 only if the game still fails. In the Compatibility tab, select Run in 640X480 screen resolution, apply the setting, and restart the game. This is another reversible suggestion in the first support thread; it may make the display appear much smaller while enabled. Read the support thread.
If Cricket 07 still closes after a few seconds
There is no single cause established for the reported Windows 11 failures. Players describe a black screen followed by a crash, an automatic close after a few seconds, and a compatibility error. In one report, compatibility mode, dgVoodoo, and display-resolution changes did not solve the problem. Black-screen report; Windows 11 compatibility report; Compatibility-error report.

The cited reports do not establish the affected players’ exact game release, installation route, Windows build, or a shared technical cause. Those details matter before attributing a particular crash to a graphics component, DirectX, or a Windows security feature.
Use DirectX advice only for a missing-component error
EA’s guidance recommends checking for pending Windows updates and installing the DirectX End-User Runtime when libraries needed by the EA app are missing. That page addresses the EA app, not Cricket 07, so it is not evidence of a game-specific fix. Consider it only if the error explicitly identifies a missing DirectX component. Why SafeDisc is not a confirmed diagnosis
Microsoft’s September 8, 2015 KB3086255 security-update article says the update turns off the secdrv.sys service and that this may affect the ability to run some older games. Microsoft also warns that turning the service back on may make a computer or network more vulnerable and does not recommend that workaround. The Cricket 07 reports described above do not show that SafeDisc is responsible for this Windows 11 crash; do not re-enable a vulnerable driver as a casual troubleshooting step.
