What the build is good at now
Flame of the Redmanes sends a broad fan of fire forward. It costs 14 FP and 20 stamina per use, and its fire attack power is documented as scaling with Strength and weapon upgrade level. The skill’s old reputation as a rapid stance-break tool no longer fits the available data. The 1.08 balance adjustment reduced its poise damage; the community patch archive lists the resulting stance damage as 10, down from 40. That makes it unwise to build around dependable stance breaks from repeated casts.
Recommended build direction
Prioritize Strength and a Heavy affinity
A Strength-forward character with a compatible weapon set to Heavy is the clearest supported starting point. The skill’s fire output also depends on weapon upgrade level, so upgrading the weapon matters to its damage. The wiki’s affinity notes favor Heavy for Strength builds: Fire gives less Strength benefit, Quality gives some, Flame Art is described as neutral, and Keen substantially reduces scaling. These are community-documented scaling directions, not a validated level-by-level stat plan.

Choose the weapon around the skill’s role
Pick a weapon that can equip Flame of the Redmanes and suits your preferred moveset; the available evidence does not establish one best weapon, an exact stat spread, talismans, or an acquisition route. Check Ash of War compatibility in the current game before committing to a specific weapon. Think of the skill as a ranged fire option within a Strength build, rather than the build’s guaranteed source of stance breaks.
Flame of the Redmanes or Flaming Strike?
For compatible weapons, the choice is mainly about FP efficiency versus reach and weapon-class access. The same undated wiki lists Flaming Strike at 4 FP and 10 stance damage, compared with Flame of the Redmanes at 14 FP and 10 stance damage. It describes Flame of the Redmanes as having about three times the reach. These are community wiki comparisons, so treat them as guidance and confirm behavior in-game.

If your weapon supports both skills and you value repeated use, Flaming Strike’s lower listed FP cost is a practical advantage. Consider Flame of the Redmanes when reaching a target at a distance matters more, or when your weapon class rules out Flaming Strike. Check current compatibility and values before selecting a weapon or allocating resources.

The community patch archive attributes the reduction in Flame of the Redmanes’ poise damage to version 1.08 and lists version 1.16.1 as its latest update. Bandai Namco’s official version 1.13 patch notes, dated 29 July 2024 and covering PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S, and Steam, do not list a change to Flame of the Redmanes. That absence is not confirmation of the skill’s values in every later regulation version; check your game’s live version if exact mechanics matter.
