For a reliable general-purpose Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword build, meet the weapon’s requirements, then prioritize Vigor for survival and Strength for its physical attacks. Add Faith if you want to lean harder into its fire damage and Magma Guillotine skill. There is no established universally best level-by-level stat spread: the right balance depends on how often you use the skill and how much survivability you need.
Recommended stat priorities
Treat this as a set of priorities, not a fixed level-150 formula. The Scalesword deals both physical and fire damage, and its Strength, Dexterity, and Faith scaling make different investments useful for different play styles. - Meet the requirements. You need 24 Strength to wield the weapon one-handed, 15 Dexterity, and 18 Faith. Two-handing lowers the effective Strength requirement to 16; it does not remove the Dexterity or Faith requirements.
- Raise Vigor to suit your survivability needs. Spending every level on damage can make close-range attacks and the skill’s leap-and-slam riskier. No source establishes a single correct Vigor target for all characters or levels.
- Invest in Strength for a melee emphasis. The weapon reference says Strength improves physical attack power and gives better results for that damage than Faith; Faith in turn performs better than Dexterity for physical attack power.
- Add Faith for a fire- and skill-focused approach. Faith improves the weapon’s fire attack, and the lingering magma damage from Magma Guillotine scales with Faith and weapon upgrade level.
- Put points into Mind if you want frequent skill use. The first Magma Guillotine attack costs 20 FP, and its follow-up costs another 10 FP. Mind or FP recovery can help sustain repeated uses, but the amount you need depends on how often you use the skill.
What the Scalesword offers
The Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword is a 15.0-weight curved greatsword. Its listed base attack power is 114 physical and 74 fire, with base scaling of C Strength, D Dexterity, and D Faith. These are listed weapon specifications, not a promise of the damage a particular character will deal; character stats, upgrades, defenses, and game balance affect results.
You receive it as a guaranteed reward for defeating Magma Wyrm Makar at the end of Ruin-Strewn Precipice. It upgrades with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Because the skill and affinity cannot be changed and the weapon cannot receive spell or consumable weapon buffs, build around its fixed Magma Guillotine rather than planning for a different Ash of War, an infusion, or a weapon buff.

Choose a build emphasis

Upgrade and support the weapon
Upgrade with Somber Smithing Stones
Somber Smithing Stones are the weapon’s upgrade path, taking it to +10. Upgrade level matters to Magma Guillotine’s lingering magma damage as well as to the weapon’s overall performance.
Use its fixed skill deliberately
Magma Guillotine combines a leap-and-slam with an optional follow-up. The first action costs 20 FP; the follow-up costs 10 FP more. Its magma pools provide a reason to consider Faith and upgrades even when your main attacks are physical, while Mind or FP recovery helps only if you want to use the skill often.
Consider skill talismans without assuming they stack
The skill reference lists Shard of Alexander and Warrior Jar Shard as increasing skill attack power, but says they cannot stack together. It also lists Talisman of the Dread as boosting all attacks. Treat these as possible choices rather than a mandatory fixed loadout, and check their availability and the current game balance before committing to a setup.

Incantations and equipment limits
The weapon has synergy with the Clawmark Seal, which scales offensive incantations with Strength and Faith. That can suit a character already investing in both stats, but the seal does not make the Scalesword’s own skill or affinity changeable, nor does it let you buff this weapon with spells or consumables.
