It fixed several cases of unintended excess damage, adjusted Swift Slash in PvP, and made other balance and bug fixes. The headline does not identify a version, though, and 1.12.3 was a whole-game update—not a patch exclusive to the expansion.
What Elden Ring patch 1.12.3 changed
Bandai Namco’s official 1.12.3 notes group the changes into PvP-exclusive adjustments, general balance adjustments, bug fixes, and possible fixes for unstable performance. The notes list PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. They also say players must apply the update to play online.
PvP-exclusive adjustment
- Swift Slash: The damage and damage animation of its shearing vacuum effect were reduced against other players. This was a PvP adjustment, not a general reduction described for all encounters.
General balance adjustments
- Carian Sorcery Sword: Intelligence scaling increased, while base damage was slightly reduced.
- Smithscript Dagger and Smithscript Cirque: Throwing range increased.
Bug fixes for unintended damage and scaling
The notes describe these as fixes for behavior that was not working as intended, rather than a broad list of deliberate weapon nerfs:
- Rolling Sparks: Fixed an issue where it dealt more damage than expected.
- Lightning Perfume Bottle and Frenzyflame Perfume Bottle: Fixed an issue that could cause double damage under certain circumstances. The notes do not say that every use dealt double damage.
- Bloodfiend’s Arm: Fixed higher-than-intended Arcane scaling when an affinity was set. The notes also say heavy-attack status buildup was reduced.
- Smithscript weapons and Golem Fist: Fixed some unintended affinities.
Other listed bug fixes
Other fixes addressed interactions involving the Thrusting Shield, Backhand Blades, and Fire Knight’s Greatsword, as well as effects from right-hand weapons being applied to skills used with left-hand weapons. The patch notes list additional bugs too; they do not present these changes as a complete weapon ranking or claim that every affected item was overpowered.

Performance suggestions in the patch notes
The notes include troubleshooting suggestions for unstable performance and certain error messages. They are possible remedies, not guaranteed fixes.
- PC, unstable frame rate: Check whether ray tracing is unintentionally enabled. The notes also suggest considering whether third-party mouse-control applications are contributing to unstable frame rates.
- PC, “Inappropriate activity detected” without cheating: Verify the integrity of the game files.
- PS5, unstable frame rate: Rebuilding the console database may improve the issue.
How 1.12.3 fits among the Shadow of the Erdtree updates
Three updates are easy to conflate because they arrived around the expansion’s release, but they addressed different things:

So, if you mean the update that corrected excess damage from particular weapons and skills, 1.12.3 is the closest match. The Scadutree Blessing changes belong to 1.12.2; the final-boss changes belong to the later 1.14 update.

No. Patch 1.12.3 updates Elden Ring and its notes list the base game’s supported platforms; buying the expansion is not required to update a copy you already own. The expansion itself does require the base game, and Bandai Namco and FromSoftware state that some base-game progress is needed before you can start it. Their official product information also lists PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Steam. It reported more than 5 million expansion units sold worldwide within three days of its 21 June 2024 release; that is a dated publisher-reported milestone, not a current sales total.
