To unlock flight in Shaaloani, attune to all 10 field Aether Currents and complete the five Aether Current quests. Use the Aether Compass to get the bearing and distance to the nearest field current, then match its coordinates below to the map. Quest currents become available as you advance the Dawntrail main scenario.
How to find Shaaloani’s field Aether Currents
The Aether Compass reports the bearing and distance to the nearest remaining Aether Current when used. Find it in the Collection menu, use it to narrow down your target, and compare the reading with the coordinates below. The coordinates and landmarks are from the community-maintained FFXIV Online Wiki; they are not independently verified traversal routes.
Coordinate values are X, Y, Z. Elevation and terrain can matter, so reaching the map point may not put you directly beside the current.

The community guide lists five quest currents. The first four entries below use its listed prerequisites and giver coordinates; Square Enix’s quest database also identifies “A Hot Commodity” as a level 96 Shaaloani main-scenario quest with an Aether Current reward.

A practical way to collect them
- Follow the main scenario. It reveals the zone and opens quest givers as you reach the listed story milestones.
- Complete newly available Aether Current quests. Check for them as the MSQ advances, rather than leaving all five until the end.
- Collect field currents near your current route. The field locations are spread across Shaaloani, so the story path may not pass every one. Use the compass and coordinates to find the remaining targets without making repeated full-zone loops.
- Check terrain when a coordinate seems off. A target can be above or below your position, or separated by terrain. The listed coordinate identifies the point, not a guaranteed path to reach it.
- Confirm the zone’s Aether Current menu is complete. Patch 7.0 notes state that meeting the Aether Current requirement unlocks flight in each area. If your in-game menu or current patch behaves differently, rely on the current game display and official patch notes.
