Fire Shark is Toaplan’s 1989 vertical-scrolling arcade shooter, known in Japan as Same! Same! Same! You pilot a revived fighter aircraft through a fictional war, with the game’s signature Super Fire weapon unleashing a fiery, wing-shaped blast. Today, Toaplan Arcade Garage: Flying Fire Shark is a confirmed Nintendo Switch option that includes both Fire Shark and its predecessor, Flying Shark.
What is Fire Shark?
Fire Shark is a vertical-scrolling shoot-’em-up developed by Toaplan and released in 1989. It follows Flying Shark in the series. What is the story?
Toaplan’s official synopsis sets the action in “19X9.” The S Army’s Red Star unit has invaded Gabul and threatens a small Middle Eastern republic. The resistance brings back the heroic aircraft from Flying Shark as the Fire Shark, and the player takes the pilot’s role. What should you check before buying?
Choose by the specific release, rather than assuming every listing called Fire Shark contains the same package. The Switch compilation is explicitly described by Nintendo as including both games and both modes. For any platform or edition, verify the current listing for:

A Creative Bloq review dated September 14, 2026, reports a western physical and digital release for Switch and PlayStation 4 on August 29, 2026, and says the physical edition includes additional content compared with the digital purchase. What is known about its release history?
Toaplan’s official catalog gives the game’s release year as 1989 and lists its Mega Drive version. The same catalog says Fire Shark placed eighth in the 1990 Best Shooting Game category; it does not identify the publication behind that ranking, so this is best understood as Toaplan’s account rather than an independently verified award record.
