It outlined changes to fatigue, passing, and homefield effects—but it described EA’s design intent, not independent proof of how well those systems play.
What was the first College Football 25 gameplay deep dive?
EA’s Campus Huddle article presented CampusIQ as the broad framework behind the game’s on-field systems. It organized that approach around three pillars: individual player abilities, the diversity of college football schemes, and players’ differing responses to pressure. Those are EA’s design goals, not a measurement that every player or team is represented accurately. EA’s gameplay deep dive explains the named systems; its May 17, 2024 announcement separately described the game’s teams, platforms, and launch date.
CampusIQ’s three pillars
- All 22+: EA’s label for emphasizing player individuality and differences in ability.
- 134 ways to play: A design aim to represent the varied schemes of all FBS teams. EA’s 2024 announcement described coverage of 134 FBS schools.
- Stories of Saturday: EA’s description of players reacting differently to pressure and hostile environments according to their experience.
How do Wear and Tear and Fatigue work?
EA describes Wear and Tear as accounting for physical impacts players take, while Fatigue represents conditioning and is intended to produce more realistic college snap counts. They are related, but not interchangeable: one concerns accumulated contact; the other concerns a player’s stamina and workload.
EA’s example is a running back who carries the ball several times, looks winded, and may leave the field on a later carry. The announcement also frames substitutions as a strategic way to manage player health and risk. As design director Scott O’Gallagher put it in the deep dive, “With the introduction of Wear and Tear, Fatigue has been completely overhauled.” That describes the in-game system; it should not be read as a validated model of real-world injury risk.

What changed in the passing system?
EA said it adjusted several parts of passing rather than announcing a single new mechanic. The deep dive describes more variation in left-stick pass-lead intent, changes to where inaccurate passes miss, and overhauled pass trajectories. It also says Throw Power now concerns how hard a player can throw, rather than only how far the ball travels.
The launch announcement additionally pointed to passing mechanics customized for college play, player ratings that fluctuate during a game, and team tiers. Together, these announcements connect passing outcomes to player differentiation, but they do not establish comparative results or prove how those changes feel in play.

How do player experience and homefield pressure fit in?
EA’s announcement says Pre-Snap Recognition makes player skill and experience relevant to decisions before the snap. Its Homefield Advantage effects are meant to make road situations feel more difficult: examples include screen shake, missing pre-play icons, and moving play art. These features are EA’s explanation of how pressure and atmosphere support the “Stories of Saturday” pillar, not independent evidence of their impact on performance.
Which gameplay options does EA document?
EA’s accessibility resource lists options that can change how a player experiences the game. It documents these settings, but does not say that each one changes every mechanic described above.
