What’s actually slowing this PC down?

First, update Grounded 2 and test multiplayer again. Obsidian’s October 1, 2026 Hotfix 0.5.1.1 fixed a specific Steam connection problem tied to players’ Steam Download Region—but it is not a promised fix for every kind of multiplayer lag. Next, identify whether you mean failed connections, delayed or desynchronized actions, or low frame rate and visual stutter; each calls for different checks.
1. Update Grounded 2 and retest multiplayer
Obsidian’s October 1, 2026 Hotfix 0.5.1.1 fixed an issue in which Steam players could not connect with others based on their Steam Download Region. Make sure the game is updated, then try joining or hosting again. The note documents that connection issue as fixed; it does not say the update resolves ongoing latency, low FPS, or every connection failure. It also does not prescribe repeatedly changing Steam’s Download Region as a workaround.
2. Identify what “lag” looks like
Use the symptom to choose the next step. A low frame rate, screen tearing, or visual hitch can happen even when multiplayer connections work. A failed connection is different from actions arriving late or players appearing out of sync. Obsidian’s performance advice addresses screen tearing and low frame rate, not a confirmed network-latency cause.
- Cannot join or connect: update first, then check multiplayer and account setup below.
- Low FPS, screen tearing, or local visual stutter: try the PC performance settings in the next section.
- Connected, but actions feel delayed or players desynchronize: record when and where it happens and report it if reproducible. The official guidance cited here does not identify a specific cause or guaranteed fix for continued multiplayer latency.
3. Reduce low FPS or visual stutter on PC
For screen tearing or low frame rate, Obsidian’s PC performance guide recommends these settings and checks:

- Download and install current graphics drivers.
- In the game’s display settings, set Window Mode to Fullscreen.
- Lower the resolution and graphics settings.
- Lower the frame-rate limit.
- Set Motion Blur to 0.
- Set FOV to 90.
- Lower Render Scale.
These are visual-performance adjustments, not an established remedy for network delay. Obsidian’s earlier Patch 0.4.2, published June 17, 2026, reduced player streaming range and optimized performance around player bases and the Park to address hitching and stutters. That is relevant context if the symptom is hitching in those areas, not a guarantee that current multiplayer lag is fixed. The same patch note’s statement that “35% of the crashes hit in 0.4.1 should be fixed in 0.4.2” concerns crashes, not lag or multiplayer latency.
4. Check multiplayer and cross-platform account setup
Grounded 2 supports online co-op, but not local or offline multiplayer, according to Obsidian’s FAQ. Steam players must link a Microsoft account to use cross-platform capabilities. If you are trying to play across platforms, follow Obsidian’s cross-platform setup guide:

- Enable crossplay in the game’s Options and accept the crossplay prompt.
- Complete Microsoft account linking.
- Check that your Xbox Gamertag appears in the main menu.
Obsidian says an Xbox Live account and a subscription to the online service for your platform are needed to fully use cross-platform multiplayer. The guide also says only one Microsoft/Xbox account can be linked to the game.
5. Check PC requirements without treating an upgrade as the first fix
Obsidian’s FAQ and crash support page list these Grounded 2 PC requirements. The separate performance page lists conflicting minimum CPU and GPU details, so the figures below use the FAQ and crash-page lists rather than combining inconsistent specifications.

These requirements are useful context for low frame rate, but meeting them does not establish or fix a network-latency cause. Obsidian’s performance page gives different minimum CPU and GPU values, so consult the FAQ and crash support page for the figures shown here.

- Your platform and a concise issue summary.
- A screenshot or video clip, if available.
- Steps that reproduce the problem.
- A save file or gamertag.
- Your PC specifications.
The guide gives the save location as %USERPROFILE%Saved GamesGrounded2. It also recommends using dxdiag and saving the system information. If relevant, note whether the problem occurs for everyone or only one player, in one world, or with a particular host; these observations may help describe the issue, but do not by themselves establish its cause.
