On February 3, 2025, Electronic Arts announced Battlefield Labs and showed a brief glimpse of pre-alpha gameplay from the next Battlefield. Labs was an invite-based playtesting program for work in progress—not an early-access version of the finished game. EA later said Battlefield 6 launched in October 2025, so the reveal should be read as an early development snapshot, not a representation of the released game.
What is Battlefield Labs?
Battlefield Labs was EA’s program for inviting players to test concepts and mechanics while the next Battlefield was still in development. EA described the sessions as a way to collect feedback before public release, with the possibility that builds could be rough, buggy, or unstable. The February announcement introduced the initiative alongside a short pre-alpha gameplay glimpse. EA’s announcement framed Labs as part of development, rather than a public demo.
Vince Zampella, then identified by EA as Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, said: “To find that potential, with us being pre-alpha, now is the time to test the experiences our teams have been building for our upcoming launch.”
How could players join, and was access guaranteed?
EA opened registration when it announced the program, but signing up did not guarantee selection. The FAQ described an invite-only program, with a few thousand invitees planned for the initial phase and room to grow later. EA did not promise a rigid schedule for sessions. The FAQ and Help page are the sources for operational details; current availability can change, so check EA’s pages for any active registration or invitation information.

Which platforms and regions were included?
EA’s FAQ listed PC through the EA app, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Console playtesting required the applicable online subscription specified in the FAQ. The initial servers and invite cohort were limited to Europe and North America, with EA saying it planned to expand participation. Those were the announced initial arrangements, not a guarantee of current or future availability in every region.
What did the first gameplay reveal show?
The February 3 footage was a brief look at a pre-alpha build, not a complete showcase of features or a guide to how the released game would play. Its value was chiefly that it gave players an early glimpse while EA introduced a feedback program intended to shape development. EA’s announcement confirmed Battlefield Studios included DICE, Motive, Ripple Effect, and Criterion. IGN reported that DICE was building multiplayer; Motive was working on single-player missions and multiplayer maps; Ripple Effect was focused on bringing new players to the franchise; and Criterion was working on the single-player campaign. The detailed role breakdown is IGN’s reporting, rather than a division of work specified in EA’s announcement. IGN’s report on the reveal

What did Labs test later in development?
EA’s May 2025 update said the first four play sessions involved a small group across Europe and North America. EA reported “thousands of hours of gameplay,” “hundreds of thousands of player spawns,” and “over a million environmental objects destroyed.” Those figures describe EA’s account of those sessions; they are not independent measurements. The update also discussed testing combat, movement, destruction, maps, server browsing, and balance. EA’s May development update
After the Open Beta, EA said Labs testing resumed to refine and polish the game for launch. Topics included maps, an early Server Browser implementation, hosting and player-owned servers, weapons, vehicles, gadgets, and Hardcore mode settings. EA’s Labs update

How does the February reveal relate to Battlefield 6?
The reveal happened during pre-alpha development in February 2025; the tests and features EA discussed afterward were later stages of that work. EA’s 2025 transparency report records Battlefield 6’s launch in October 2025. The pre-alpha footage therefore should not be treated as footage of the finished release, and participation in Labs was separate from buying the game. EA’s 2025 transparency report
