Supercell says an unstable internet connection is the usual cause. Try a steadier connection first, then update the game, close background apps, clear the cache and restart your device.
What the “out of sync” error means
Clash of Clans uses a connection to keep your game state aligned with the server. When that connection becomes unstable, the game may continue running while trying to reconnect, and the client and server can fall out of sync. Supercell describes an unstable internet connection as the usual reason for this message. Supercell Support: Unstable Connection
That does not identify one specific fault on your device. Supercell lists several possible contributors: a weak or broken device connection, unstable signal or poor reception, low device performance, server downtime, or app maintenance. The message alone does not confirm that the servers are down or that maintenance is underway.
Try these fixes in order
- Move to a more reliable connection. If reception is poor, move somewhere with a stronger signal. Try Wi-Fi or cellular data, whichever is more stable where you are. Full signal bars do not guarantee a reliable connection: local networks can slow down or become overloaded, and a moving vehicle or underground transit can make service less dependable.
- Check for a Clash of Clans update. Open the app store for your device, check whether an update is available, and install it if so. Then reopen the game.
- Close background apps. Shut down other apps running in the background, then try Clash of Clans again.
- Clear the game cache. Use your device’s app settings to clear the cache for Clash of Clans. The exact menu path varies by device and operating system; Supercell’s guidance does not specify a universal path.
- Restart your device. After restarting, launch the game and check whether the connection holds.
What happens to troops during a connection problem?
Supercell says troops deployed before the connectivity issue are registered. Troops deployed after the connection has failed are not registered. A battle may continue if the connection returns, but do not assume actions taken during the interruption will be recovered.

If the error keeps returning
Try the steps again from a location with a stable connection. Because server downtime and maintenance are among the possible causes, check current in-game notices or official Supercell channels if the problem affects you across otherwise reliable connections. The support guidance does not establish whether an outage or maintenance event is happening at any given time.
If the issue persists, open Clash of Clans’ in-game Help and Support and describe when the error occurs and what connection and troubleshooting steps you tried. Supercell’s article does not promise a particular fix or provide a separate guaranteed escalation process for this error.
