If The Division 2 has no sound, first check the game’s separate volume sliders, then see whether the problem affects only the game or all audio on your device. On Windows, check the game’s Volume Mixer level and playback routing before changing drivers. For missing dialogue, footsteps, or other channels on PC, test a standard audio format and turn off headset surround virtualization. Ubisoft’s August 10, 2026 patch notes also document a fix for missing gunshots and effects after extended play, but it is not described as a fix for every audio problem.
Start with the game’s audio settings
- From the main menu, open Settings > Audio.
- Check that Master Volume is audible, then inspect the slider for the missing category: Music Volume, SFX Volume, or Dialogue Volume.
- Change only the relevant setting, then test the game again. The controls are documented by Ubisoft for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4; the support article does not document Xbox Series-specific steps. Ubisoft’s audio settings guide.
Find out whether the problem is limited to The Division 2
Play a system sound or audio from another app. If those work but the game is silent, focus on the game’s Windows app level and output route. If other apps are also silent, check Windows’ selected playback device and broader audio settings instead.
When only the game is silent
- Open Windows Volume Mixer and make sure The Division 2 is not muted and its volume is turned up.
- Confirm the game is routed to the playback device you intend to use, such as the connected headset or speakers.
- If the game remains silent, Microsoft recommends restarting the Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder services, then testing the affected app again. These are general Windows troubleshooting steps, not a diagnosis specific to the game. Microsoft’s app-audio guide.
When audio works but some channels are missing
If music plays but dialogue, NPC voices, footsteps, or other sounds do not, test the Windows audio format and headset processing before changing drivers. In a Steam Player Support discussion, Ubisoft developer account Ubi-Vinci suggested testing 16-bit, 44.1 kHz and disabling multichannel or surround-sound virtualization in headset software. One player reported that disabling virtualization restored dialogue, NPC voices, and footsteps; that is a single user report, not a guaranteed fix. Steam Player Support discussion.
- In Windows sound settings, open the properties for the playback device in use and select a standard format such as 16-bit, 44.1 kHz if available.
- In the headset’s companion software, turn off virtual surround or multichannel virtualization for a test.
- Change one setting at a time, restart the game after changing the output device or format, and test dialogue and gameplay effects separately.
Check the Windows output device and format
If sound is missing across apps, verify that Windows has selected the intended output device and try another available default audio format. Microsoft lists driver update or reinstall steps as later options when simpler checks fail; use its device-specific instructions rather than changing drivers as a first move. Microsoft’s Windows sound troubleshooting guide.

Check PS5 audio output and the display path
If the problem affects other games or the PS5’s system audio too, inspect the console’s output settings and the connection to the display. On PS5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output. For a possible display-path issue, PlayStation recommends connecting the console directly to the display, removing other audio/video devices from the chain, checking the display input and firmware, and trying another HDMI cable or port. These checks address the console/display path, not a defect specific to The Division 2. PlayStation’s PS5 HDMI troubleshooting guide.
What Ubisoft’s latest cited audio fix covers
Ubisoft’s August 10, 2026 TUY8S2.3 patch notes say the team fixed an issue where gunshots, explosions, and various effects could no longer be heard after extended play sessions. That note is relevant if those effects disappear during a long session; it does not establish a universal fix for all silence, missing dialogue, or audio loss outside the game. Use the symptom to choose the next check
| What you hear | Where to check next |
|---|---|
| No game audio, but other Windows apps work | Game slider, Volume Mixer mute/level, and app output routing. |
| Music plays, but dialogue or effects are missing | Individual in-game category slider; then Windows format and headset surround virtualization. |
| Sound disappears after extended play, especially gunshots or effects | Check whether Ubisoft’s August 10, 2026 patch applies to your issue; its notes cover those effects, not every audio fault. |
| PS5 system audio or other games are also silent | PS5 Audio Output settings and the HDMI/display connection. |
| All Windows audio is affected | Selected output device and format; then Microsoft’s service and driver troubleshooting steps. |
Test after each change rather than resetting several settings at once. If the playback device also fails in other games and apps after these checks, investigate that device separately; the cited guidance does not indicate that buying replacement hardware is necessary to fix a game-only issue.
