Metacritic’s Nintendo Switch critic page showed an 82 Metascore from 13 critic reviews when accessed in 2026: 12 positive, one mixed, and none negative. How does Flat Heroes play?
The game pares platforming down to movement and timing. You run, jump, dash, and attack through geometric stages while avoiding hazards and facing boss encounters. Its minimal presentation keeps attention on where your character is, what is moving, and when to act. That makes the core loop easy to understand, though succeeding can demand quick reactions and precise control.

Nintendo’s listing describes more than 300 handcrafted levels and ten final bosses. That is a substantial campaign offering, but the number of stages does not mean every session will feel easy or breezy: the review evidence frames the challenge as a defining part of the experience.
Is it better solo or with friends?
Flat Heroes supports solo play as well as cooperative and versus modes. Nintendo lists local play for one to four players on a single system, and the developer describes modes for one to four players. The game’s multiplayer is therefore a meaningful part of its appeal, not just an online feature implied by a storefront score.

Local play makes it a plausible choice for a group that wants to tackle stages together or compete. If your group prefers low-pressure play, keep the difficulty in mind: the same fast, hazard-focused design that makes coordination engaging can make the experience demanding. The release dates shown for Steam and Nintendo Switch refer to separate platform releases: Steam lists September 8, 2016, while Nintendo lists August 2, 2018. Nintendo describes its Switch edition as digital and lists a 241 MB file size, a platform detail that may change with updates.

The developer says the game was designed for controllers, while also providing a keyboard-and-mouse control scheme. Choose based on the platform you already use and the input you prefer. For Switch local multiplayer, Nintendo warns that additional accessories may be required; neither the official Nintendo listing nor the developer FAQ specifies a required controller model. Check your available controllers before planning a full four-player session.
