There is no official, fixed ranking of FM26 wonderkids: player ratings and potential can vary by save and database update. This shortlist uses “wonderkid” to mean a player aged 20 or under at your chosen database start, and recommends targets by position and tactical role—not as guaranteed best-in-game picks. Check each player’s age, eligibility, profile and transfer terms in your save before making an offer.
How to use this FM26 shortlist
FM26 launched on November 5, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac and Netflix; the Switch release followed on December 4, 2025. SEGA also identifies FM26 as the series’ first Unity-engine game and its first to include women’s football. The platform and release details are in SEGA’s release announcement.

Use the current database for your platform and save, since updates can change player records and eligibility. Treat “best” here as a practical recommendation: role suitability, readiness, estimated ceiling, affordability and a plausible route to first-team minutes matter more than one ranking number. Scout a target and inspect the in-game profile before committing.
The names below are leads drawn from FM26 lists and role-based recommendations, not a verified one-player-per-position ranking. The available source material does not establish a comparable current transfer fee, wage, club, or exact in-game age for each player. Check those details in your chosen database rather than treating a label such as “budget option” as a price guarantee.

Goalkeeper
What to prioritize
No goalkeeper was singled out by name in the available shortlist leads, so there is no defensible named “best” pick here. Choose for the way your team defends: reflexes and handling are core shot-stopping checks, while aerial reach matters under crosses. If you build from the back, also assess passing and whether the keeper can safely support your line.
Centre-back
Best role fit: Pau Cubarsí for a ball-playing defender
A role-based FM26 guide identifies Pau Cubarsí as a ball-playing-defender option. That makes him a lead to scout if you want a centre-back to help start attacks, not an automatic choice for every system. Compare his in-game passing and composure with the demands of your build-up, then check positioning, anticipation, pace and jumping reach against your defensive line and opponents.
Other names to scout
Leny Yoro and Dean Huijsen appear among FM26.co.uk’s potential-led shortlist. They are alternatives to investigate, but the source does not establish which is the stronger fit for a particular role or the cheaper signing. Let the player profile, your tactical needs and the asking terms in your save decide.
Rank #2

Full-back and wing-back
Best lead: Myles Lewis-Skelly
Myles Lewis-Skelly appears in FM26.co.uk’s potential shortlist and is a useful name to check for a wide defensive role. Confirm his actual position eligibility in your database; do not assume he is equally suited to full-back, wing-back or midfield. For a high-pressing or attacking flank, assess the attributes and stamina needed to contribute in both directions, as well as whether your squad can offer him regular minutes.

Defensive and central midfield
Best box-to-box lead: Warren Zaïre-Emery
A role-based guide recommends Warren Zaïre-Emery for a box-to-box midfield role. Consider him when you need a player to contribute across the pitch; evaluate the in-game attributes against your team’s pressing, defensive coverage and attacking responsibilities rather than relying on the role label alone.
Lower-cost midfield leads: Adam Wharton and Ayyoub Bouaddi
The same guide names Adam Wharton and Ayyoub Bouaddi as lower-cost options for corresponding midfield roles. “Lower-cost” is relative, not a published fee: availability and terms depend on the save. Compare their profiles with the specific job you need, and weigh any saving against readiness and the minutes you can provide.
Rank #3
Other midfield names
Lucas Bergvall and Ayyoub Bouaddi feature in FM26.co.uk’s potential-led list. Use them as additional scouting leads rather than assuming either is a direct substitute for a defensive midfielder, creator or runner; verify position eligibility and role suitability in-game.
Attacking midfield and wide forward
Best advanced-playmaker lead: Arda Güler
A role-based guide points to Arda Güler as an advanced playmaker. He is a natural lead to investigate if your system gives a central creator room to receive and make chances. Check his listed positions and the attributes your version assigns him, then consider whether the role fits your formation and whether he can get meaningful playing time.
Best inside-forward lead: Lamine Yamal
Lamine Yamal is the role-based guide’s inside-forward pick and appears on FM26.co.uk’s potential shortlist. That recommendation suits a system asking a wide attacker to move inside; it does not make him the default choice for a touchline-hugging winger. Confirm his preferred side and role in your save and make sure the rest of the attack provides the width your system needs.

Other wide and attacking leads
Désiré Doué, Estêvão, Ethan Nwaneri and Konstantinos Karetsas appear in FM26.co.uk’s potential-led list. Their inclusion makes them worth scouting, but does not establish a single best position, role or price for each. Use the in-game eligibility and profile to distinguish a winger, inside forward or central attacking option.

Best centre-forward lead: Endrick
A role-based guide names Endrick as a centre-forward option, and he also appears on FM26.co.uk’s potential shortlist. Before choosing him, match his in-game strengths to your striker role and the service your team creates; the label “centre forward” alone does not show whether he best suits your preferred approach.
Lower-cost alternative leads: Vitor Roque and Evan Ferguson
The role-based guide describes Vitor Roque and Evan Ferguson as lower-cost options for corresponding forward roles. That is a relative shortlist description, not a verified transfer quote or guarantee of availability. Check each player’s current club, role fit, asking terms and likely playing-time path in your save.

How to choose between prospects
- Set the database and age cutoff. Use the database attached to your save and apply the under-21-at-start definition used here. Player age and eligibility should be checked in that save.
- Start with position and role. Filter for players who can perform the position you need, then compare their profile with the tactical job. A high-potential player is not automatically a fit for your system.
- Separate readiness from ceiling. Compare current ability and attributes with the estimated potential shown in your game. Potential is not a promise, and outcomes can vary between saves.
- Check the full cost. Review asking price, wages and any other terms in the negotiation screen. No exact fees or wages are established for the named leads here.
- Plan the minutes. A prospect’s value to your squad depends partly on a realistic route to play. Check the competition at his position and decide whether he can contribute now, develop with rotation, or needs a loan.
- Scout before you bid. Use reports and the player profile to confirm attributes, role suitability, availability and any uncertainty in the assessment.
How shortlist ratings and potential should be read
Different guides use different measures. Football Manager Blog describes its September 7, 2026 shortlist as covering 1,219 players across 10 positions, with proprietary 1–99 ability and potential ratings. Those numbers are the site’s own scales, not raw in-game current ability or potential, and the site warns that they are not guaranteed asking prices. FourFourTwo’s March 16, 2026 guide covers more than 600 players by position, says potential can vary from save to save, and frames its star ratings relative to an elite club: gold stars represent expected level and silver stars a best-case ceiling. Neither format replaces checking the individual player in your own save.
FM26.co.uk’s named shortlist supplies a broader pool of potential-led prospects, including Lamine Yamal, Ethan Nwaneri, Endrick, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Nico Paz, Leny Yoro, Lucas Bergvall, Désiré Doué, Estêvão, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Konstantinos Karetsas and Dean Huijsen. The page notes that some rising stars may be absent because of licensing or age limits, so absence from a list is not proof that a player is unavailable in every database.
