Epic enabled Double Pump for shotguns in Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 1, which launched December 6, 2024. Epic described the change as active “for now”; the season was scheduled to end January 31, 2025, so that announcement does not confirm the mechanic is available today.
What Epic confirmed about Double Pump
In its December 5, 2024 announcement, Epic said Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 1 would return players to the start of Chapter 1. Among the preserved and updated mechanics, it listed “double pump is enabled for Shotguns (for now).” Epic’s announcement is explicit about both the weapon category and the temporary qualification.
A December 7, 2024 PlayStation Blog post by Epic Games’ Molly Dyer independently affirmed that the Double Pump playstyle was returning to Fortnite OG, alongside more items that would be unvaulted as the season progressed.
How the Double Pump tactic worked
Double Pump refers to carrying two Pump Shotguns and switching between them after firing, allowing shots to be fired in quick succession. That tactical description was provided by Insider Gaming’s November 23, 2024 explanation; Epic’s announcement confirms the feature but does not spell out the swap technique.

When Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 1 ran
Epic launched the season on December 6, 2024, and said it would end January 31, 2025, at 2 AM ET. Solos, Squads, and Zero Build were available at launch. The OG Pass, an in-game progression track with 45 tiers of retro rewards with modern twists, had the same stated completion deadline.
OG recreated the era without reproducing every old limitation
Fortnite OG brought back the early Chapter 1 map and day-one loot pool, including the Pump Shotgun, with additional items set to return as the season progressed. Epic also described a mix of old and newer systems: it retained some rough edges while including later quality-of-life features such as sprinting, sliding, mantling, door bashing, moving while healing, Reboot Vans, and sniper-scope glare. Building resources were capped at 999. Zero Build included Ziplines and Ascenders.

That combination matters when describing the mode: it revisited early Fortnite content, but Epic did not present it as an exact recreation of the original experience. Its announcement also does not establish whether Double Pump remains enabled in Fortnite as of October 8, 2026.
