Keep your city’s income and costs in balance, spend Forge Points with a clear goal, expand when you can use the rewards, and adapt your army to the opponent and terrain. Great Buildings can support different plans, but there is no one ranking that fits every city or server.
Start by finding your city’s bottleneck
Before adding buildings or pushing into another age, identify what is limiting your next useful action. It may be coins or supplies, population, happiness, goods, military capacity, or city space. Address that constraint first; otherwise, faster expansion can leave you unable to support the city and army it requires.
InnoGames describes city development as a balance between revenue and expenditure. Residential and production buildings help provide the economy needed for research and growth, while happiness affects production efficiency. The right mix depends on your playstyle and immediate needs, rather than a fixed building recipe. InnoGames: Basics + Interface
- If you cannot afford an upcoming action, check whether your income and production can sustain it before adding another commitment.
- If happiness is low, account for its effect on production rather than assuming a new production building will solve the problem by itself.
- If space is tight, weigh a new building against the value of keeping room for other city needs.
Spend Forge Points according to your next goal
Forge Points are used for research, trading, and leveling Great Buildings. Because those uses compete for the same resource, choose a priority based on what is blocking progress now: a technology you need, a trade or goods requirement, or investment in a Great Building’s benefit. The available official guidance does not prescribe a universally optimal ratio or daily budget. InnoGames: Getting Started
#1 Best Overall
- VIE FOR SUPEMACY: Europe in the Age of Absolutism: The 7 Empires Great Britain, Russia, France, Spain, Prussia, Habsburg and the Ottomans vie for supremacy on the old continent.
- THE GAME IS PLAYED OVER 8 DECADES with each Empires taking a turn and section actions. Build your legacy through the decades as you develop & influence the different empires.
- BUILD & DEPLOY: The Empire builds a new city or upgrades an existing one. Once cities are built or upgraded, players can deploy units to defend their territories or expand their empire.
- MOVE & FIGHT: Movement and combat are essential components in establishing control over the game world. Put pressure on your competitors by moving your ships and land units to establish your won flag in occupied regions.
- GAME VARIANTS: Change up your game! The standard game can span8 decades but you can expand to 9 or 10 decades, with each decade bringing new opportunities and challenges.
Research connects spending to city growth: technologies can unlock buildings and other advances, but moving forward also increases what you need to support. Before committing Forge Points to a technology, consider whether your economy and military can make practical use of the next step.
Expand the map when you can use what it unlocks
Provinces can provide city expansions and access to goods deposits, so map progress is not just about claiming territory. Sectors can be taken through negotiation or combat. Pace expansion against the resources and military capacity you have available; a new province is most useful when you can turn its rewards into something your city needs. InnoGames: Getting Started

Choose battles for the opposing army and terrain
InnoGames’ introductory combat guidance gives a broad counter pattern: fast units are effective against ranged units, melee units against fast units, and ranged units against melee units. Treat that as a starting principle, not a complete unit-by-unit calculator or a guarantee of victory. Check the opposing force and use the units available to answer it.
- Counter the enemy: use the fast-versus-ranged, melee-versus-fast, and ranged-versus-melee relationships as a basic guide.
- Infiltrate first when useful: infiltration weakens the opposing army before the battle.
- Use the map: terrain affects tactical choices, so account for it rather than treating every engagement as an open-field fight.
- Concentrate attacks: when possible, direct several of your units against one enemy unit instead of spreading damage across the whole force.
These are high-level principles from InnoGames’ getting-started guidance; it does not provide a current comprehensive matchup chart for every unit and situation. InnoGames: Getting Started

Choose Great Buildings for their benefit and opportunity cost
Great Buildings provide different benefits and can be leveled with Forge Points. Evaluate one against your actual goal—such as research and Forge Points, the economy, combat, or another benefit—and account for its costs, city footprint, placement, and the other uses competing for your resources. Different choices suit different playstyles; the official guidance does not establish a universal ranking across ages, player types, and servers. InnoGames: Great Buildings
Placement and investment deserve care: InnoGames says a Great Building can be deleted, but rebuilding it requires the necessary blueprints and goods. That makes the choice more than a question of whether its effect sounds useful today; consider what you would give up to build and level it, and how difficult it would be to restore if your plans change. Separate the Prestige announcement from Live strategy
InnoGames’ official news archive announced that the redesigned Great Buildings Prestige feature would arrive on Beta on October 8, 2026. Its feature overview describes new Gold effects, including evergreen multipliers, unique resource mechanics, and bonuses tied to playing with others. Examples include a Royal Albert Hall goods reserve and an Alcatraz effect that multiplies existing attacking-army Attack and Defense bonuses in Guild Battlegrounds. These are descriptions of the feature, not confirmation that it is active on every Live world. Check your server’s current availability before changing a Live strategy around Prestige effects.
