Longdue Games is developing Hopetown, a narrative RPG described as a spiritual successor to Disco Elysium. It is not Disco Elysium 2: the announced premise is a rogue journalist in a mining town, and the available reporting does not establish that the game uses the original’s setting.
What is Hopetown?
Longdue first announced its formation in October 2024, describing an unnamed, narrative-focused “psychogeographic RPG.” On March 11, 2025, the studio revealed that project as Hopetown and released a teaser. VentureBeat reported that a Kickstarter launch was announced for March 17, 2025; that dated announcement does not establish the campaign’s current status. How is it connected to Disco Elysium?
“Spiritual successor” signals an intended creative lineage, not a direct sequel or a confirmed return to Disco Elysium’s world. Longdue’s announced focus on psychological role-playing and the relationship between inner experience and physical surroundings echoes broad concerns associated with the earlier game, but the project has its own named premise and protagonist.
The personnel connection is real but limited. Longdue reported that nine people who had worked on Disco Elysium contributed to Hopetown as of March 2025, according to VentureBeat. VentureBeat also reported that narrator Lenval Brown voices a key character and that Martin Luiga joined to contribute to narrative and systems. This does not mean the original development team reunited.

At the time of the October 2024 announcement, GameSpot reported that Robert Kurvitz, Aleksander Rostov, and ZA/UM had nothing to do with Longdue’s project; The Guardian likewise reported that Kurvitz and Rostov were not involved. Those reports distinguish Longdue’s game from work by the original creative leads.
What has Longdue announced about the story and gameplay?
A journalist in a mining town
Longdue describes the player character as a rogue journalist investigating life in a mining town. The studio says players can shape stories through different reporting styles, making journalism part of the role-playing premise rather than just background flavor.

Psychogeography as an interaction system
The announced concept treats emotions, memories, and conversations as ways of interacting with the world. Longdue has framed the game around the interplay between a character’s inner life and the surrounding landscape. Narrative director Grant Roberts described the intended approach as “another narrative-first, psychological RPG, where the interplay between inner worlds and external landscapes is the beating heart of the experience,” in a statement quoted by Gematsu.
These are the studio’s descriptions of the design, not independently verified hands-on findings. The announcement material does not establish the detailed mechanics, how reporting choices resolve, or how the systems work moment to moment.

Is Hopetown Disco Elysium 2?
No. It is a separate project by Longdue, presented as a spiritual successor. The reporting available here does not identify it as a sequel, confirm that it shares the original game’s setting, or show that Kurvitz and Rostov are involved.
Who is making Hopetown?
Longdue Games is making the game. The studio was formed by developers associated with Disco Elysium and its cancelled sequel.
