Fog Rift Catacombs is a minor dungeon in Gravesite Plain, in the Realm of Shadow. It lies north of Castle Front, beyond a gorge. Inside, ceiling spike traps and an elevator lead to Death Knight, whose defeat rewards Death Knight’s Twin Axes and Crimson Amber Medallion +3.
Where to find Fog Rift Catacombs
From the Castle Front Site of Grace, head north and continue past the gorge to the cave entrance. The Elden Ring Interactive Map places the entrance in north-east Gravesite Plain; both references identify the same general area, though their directional descriptions differ. See the Gravesite Plain interactive map or Game8’s Fog Rift Catacombs walkthrough and location guide for map context.
How to explore the catacombs
The route includes rooms with ceiling-mounted spike traps, safe spots, a hole leading to the sewers, and an elevator before the boss fog. Game8’s walkthrough advises drawing out a trap and crossing after the spikes retract. The available route details do not establish a complete step-by-step path, so use the linked walkthrough for the full sequence rather than relying on an incomplete route description.
- Watch the ceiling and wait for the spikes to rise before crossing.
- Check safe spots carefully; the walkthrough flags a hole in one of them that drops into the sewers.
- Continue through the catacombs and take the elevator toward the boss fog.
Loot and missable points
Notable items listed for the dungeon include:
- Ash of War: Blinkbolt
- Electrocharge
- Ancient Dragon Knight’s Cookbook [1]
- Great Ghost Glovewort
- Black Knight Commander Andreas Spirit Ashes
- A Stone-Sheathed Sword altar
Game8 also lists consumables and Grave Gloveworts in the dungeon. The location reference from the community-maintained Elden Ring Wiki corroborates several of the notable items and the altar: Fog Rift Catacombs.

Stone-Sheathed Sword altar
Fog Rift Catacombs is one of three altar locations for the Stone-Sheathed Sword; the other two are Ruins of Unte and Ancient Ruins of Rauh. The Elden Ring Guide recommends the catacombs altar because it considers that route the most complicated to reach. That is the guide’s route advice, not an official developer recommendation. See its Stone-Sheathed Sword location guide.

Death Knight waits at the end of the dungeon. Game8 lists Death Knight’s Twin Axes and Crimson Amber Medallion +3 as rewards for defeating him, and says the victory clears the catacombs. The boss and reward details are guide-reported information; the cited references are guides and map resources rather than official FromSoftware documentation.
