There was no confirmed Switch 2 Lite release date or price in the sources cited here. In a January 22, 2026 report, former Nintendo employees Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang discussed the possibility of a cheaper model, with Ellis reportedly estimating $350 and the pair suggesting an announcement could come as early as February 2026. Those were predictions—not a Nintendo announcement—and the cited official Nintendo pages do not confirm a Switch 2 Lite.
What did the former Nintendo marketers predict?
Notebookcheck reported that Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang, former Nintendo employees, considered a lower-priced Switch 2 variant likely. The report said they thought Nintendo could announce one as early as February 2026. It attributed a $350 estimate to Ellis and described possible handheld-only play, no included dock, and integrated rather than detachable controllers as speculation—not verified specifications. Notebookcheck’s January 22, 2026 report is the source for those forecasts.

The timing is specific to that January 2026 report: “February” meant February 2026, not a future month relative to today. The cited material does not establish that an announcement happened then, nor does it provide a confirmed launch date.
How does the $350 estimate compare with confirmed Nintendo prices?
Nintendo announced the standard Switch 2 for US release on June 5, 2025, at a US suggested retail price of $449.99. Its Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle was announced at $499.99; that price covered the system and a digital copy of the game, not the console alone. These are official launch prices, whereas $350 is Ellis’s reported estimate for a hypothetical Lite. Nintendo’s June 5, 2025 launch announcement gives the confirmed figures.

For context, Nintendo’s US Switch-family page displayed the original Switch OLED at $399.99, standard Switch at $339.99, and Switch Lite at $229.99 when accessed October 8, 2026. Those are current page listings for the original Switch family, not launch prices and not prices for Switch 2 models; listings can change. Nintendo’s Switch Family page identifies the models and descriptions.
Does the “OSM” code confirm a Switch 2 Lite?
No. Notebookcheck said a new “OSM” product code had been noticed on the Nintendo Account portal and that observers debated whether it might refer to a Lite, an OLED model, or something else. The report said the code’s meaning was unclear. It is not proof that Nintendo is making or preparing to announce a Switch 2 Lite.

What does Nintendo’s existing Switch Lite tell us?
Nintendo describes the original Switch Lite as a compact, lightweight system dedicated to handheld play. It plays Nintendo Switch games that support handheld mode. That establishes what the Lite name means for the original Switch family; it does not establish that a Switch 2 Lite would have the same design, compatibility, or limitations. The handheld-only format and possible changes to a dock or controllers mentioned in the rumor remain conjecture.
