On July 4, 2025, Insider Gaming reported that Fred Russell, who left Turn 10 in 2016, said: “Turn 10 Studios has shuttered the Forza Motorsport space and the team is no more.” Insider Gaming’s report attributed the statement to Russell; it was not an announcement from Microsoft or Xbox. That wording concerns the Motorsport team or development space. It should not be treated as proof that Xbox has formally canceled the Forza Motorsport franchise.
What has Xbox said since?
On September 22, 2026, Xbox Wire announced that Turn 10 and Playground Games would come together as one studio focused on Forza and Fable, formalizing their existing partnership. The Xbox Wire announcement does not name a new Forza Motorsport title, confirm that one is in development, or give a release schedule. Its broad reference to Forza is not confirmation of a Motorsport sequel.

What did Phil Spencer say about the franchise?
In comments reported by Windows Central on October 25, 2025, Microsoft Gaming executive Phil Spencer responded “No!” when asked whether the IP had been cut off. He also said, “As for Forza Motorsport, we sometimes have to shift our focus to games that will be released earlier.” The report describes a change in priorities and more time for teams; it does not announce another game or a date. Forza Motorsport launched on October 10, 2023, and Xbox lists it as available for Xbox Series X|S and PC on its product page. That establishes the availability of the existing game, not a commitment to a follow-up.

At launch, Turn 10 described the game as a racing platform designed to change over time, with fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and new content planned. How to read the conflicting signals
- Authority: Russell’s reported statement is a former employee’s claim, while Xbox Wire’s 2026 announcement is an official statement about the studios’ organization.
