Check Epic’s live status pages first; if they show no matching issue, work through the steps below, starting with the least disruptive fixes.
First, check whether Fortnite or Epic reports a known issue
Before changing console or account settings, check Epic Games Status and Fortnite Status for an issue matching your symptoms. Epic also points players to its community issue channels. Status can change, so a report that is not listed does not prove that every service is working; it means there is no matching issue shown there at the time you check. Epic’s guidance does not establish that a current Xbox Series X|S sign-in or crash incident has been acknowledged.
If there is no matching known issue, follow the troubleshooting path for the exact message you see. If the problem happens again, Epic recommends submitting an in-game bug report; it can include Fortnite game logs that may help identify the cause. See Epic’s instructions for reporting a Fortnite bug.
Fix “Login Failed” on Xbox
Epic’s Xbox-specific sequence starts with the console cache and Fortnite itself, then moves on to network and profile steps. Try the steps in order:

- Clear the Xbox cache. Follow the console cache-clearing procedure in Epic’s “Login Failed” guidance for Xbox.
- Fully quit Fortnite. Return to the Xbox dashboard, highlight Fortnite, open its menu, select Quit, then launch the game again. Resuming a suspended game is not the same as fully quitting it.
- Restart your modem or router. Then try signing in again.
- Try a different DNS setting. If you change DNS and the issue remains, note the original setting so you can restore it.
- Remove and re-add your Xbox profile. Make sure you can access the account before removing its profile from the console.
Resolve an Xbox Live sign-in message
If Fortnite displays “An unexpected error occurred while signing in to your account for Xbox Live,” Epic recommends clearing the console cache and checking that Fortnite is up to date. Also check for available Xbox system updates, as Epic’s general console guidance recommends keeping both the game and platform current. See Epic’s Xbox Live sign-in troubleshooting and its general Fortnite console troubleshooting.
Check account linking for “You haven’t signed in on this account before”
This message can point to an account mismatch rather than a console fault. Check that the Xbox account is linked to the Epic account you intend to use, and confirm that you are signed in to the correct Epic account. Epic explains the checks in its account-linking error guidance.

Clear profile and login-queue errors with a restart
For “Failed to load profile” or “Unable to join Fortnite log in queue,” Epic says restarting the console can typically clear the error. If the same message returns after a full restart, move on to connection troubleshooting using Epic’s profile and login-queue guidance.
Troubleshoot Fortnite crashes on Xbox Series X|S
If Fortnite closes unexpectedly or repeatedly crashes, Epic’s general console troubleshooting includes clearing the platform cache, reinstalling Fortnite, and power cycling the console. Check for game and Xbox updates as well. Reinstalling takes longer than a restart or cache clear, so try the simpler steps first. If the issue persists after these actions, Epic advises contacting the console maker; for Xbox, that is Xbox Support. Epic’s full procedure is in its Fortnite console troubleshooting article.

Use resets only after the simpler fixes fail
Epic’s Xbox “Login Failed” sequence places a console reset after the earlier troubleshooting steps. If you reach that point, use the specified option, Reset and keep my games & apps, rather than assuming every reset option has the same effect. Read the on-screen prompts carefully before proceeding.
For some Xbox Live sign-in problems, Epic Support can reset Fortnite settings. Epic warns that this clears those settings, which you will need to configure again. Treat this as a later escalation, not an early troubleshooting step. The consequences and order are described in Epic’s Xbox Live sign-in guidance.
