Outgoing CEO Chris Park remained with the esports organization as an adviser focused on sports and education. Gen.G said Hur would prioritize its esports training program and community initiatives with fans and partners.
What changed at Gen.G?
The announcement marked a leadership transition, not Hur’s arrival at the organization. He had served as COO since 2019 and was also co-president before becoming CEO. Park left the CEO role but stayed on as an adviser focused on sports and education.
| Executive | Role before the announcement | Role after the announced change |
|---|---|---|
| Arnold Hur | COO and co-president | CEO |
| Chris Park | CEO | Adviser focused on sports and education |
The change was announced December 15, 2021. The available reporting does not establish who holds Gen.G’s CEO role in October 2026, so Hur’s appointment should be understood here as a historical announcement rather than a statement of current leadership.
Why did Gen.G promote Hur?
Gen.G said Hur had overseen the organization’s strategic definition and execution and led its esports team operations. For his CEO role, the company named continued development of its esports training program and community initiatives involving fans and partners as priorities. These were stated goals in the announcement, not reported outcomes.

The company placed the appointment in the context of its efforts to build its international brand and develop business models through partnerships in education, entertainment, and music. It cited McDonald’s, PUMA, and LG UltraGear as examples of brands in that partnership context; the announcement does not show that those companies endorsed Hur’s appointment or document a specific activation by each one.
Who is Arnold Hur?
Gen.G described Hur as the former president of Memebox. Before that, he worked on travel product and strategy integration at Google, in management consulting at Boston Consulting Group, and in investment banking at Goldman Sachs. Gen.G’s announcement said Memebox had raised more than $196 million; that is the company’s historical claim, not an independently verified funding total or a valuation.

In a contemporaneous GamesBeat interview published December 15, 2021, Hur said he joined Gen.G in 2017, when it was known as KSV Esports, as its third employee and helped develop its content marketing operation. The report described the organization at that time as operating across Seoul and Santa Monica with more than 100 team members. Those are dated 2021-era details, not current headcount or location information.

Gen.G’s announcement attributed this statement to Hur as incoming CEO: “I have a firm belief that you can’t build community without conversation.” In the GamesBeat interview, he described Gen.G’s business strength as “figuring out how to bridge communities,” including connections between esports and partners or communities in areas such as fashion and music. His remarks about a digital-first model and distributed headquarters were his perspective in that interview, not independent findings about the wider esports industry.
