How much did Switch 2 cost at launch?
Nintendo’s 2025 U.S. suggested retail price was $449.99 for the console and $499.99 for a bundle that included a digital copy of Mario Kart World. These are launch-era suggested prices, not current offers or a statement of today’s pricing.

Where could you buy a Switch 2 on launch day?
U.S. retailers announced different procedures for June 5, 2025. Their national announcements described how participating stores would handle sales, but did not establish that a particular location had stock. A walk-in opportunity meant a chance to buy while supplies lasted, not a reservation.
Best Buy: late-night openings and limited walk-in stock
Best Buy said nearly all of its U.S. stores would open at 12:01 a.m. ET on June 5 for preorder pickup and walk-in purchases. The corresponding times were 11:01 p.m. CT, 10:01 p.m. MT, and 9:01 p.m. PT on June 4. The retailer announced a limited number of consoles, games, and accessories for walk-in customers; hours and availability depended on the location. Its announcement directed shoppers to the Best Buy store locator.

Target: tickets at stores, online sales the next morning
Target said shoppers could line up at the designated store entrance before opening on June 5. Staff would distribute physical or digital tickets that reserved products for purchase. Ticketing was to end when all tickets were claimed or ten minutes before the store opened, whichever came first. Stock was limited, and purchases were capped at one of each Switch 2 item per guest. Target scheduled sales through its website and app for the morning of June 6, not launch day. Store procedures and opening times varied by location.
Nintendo’s online store: launch-day delivery not assured
Nintendo warned that orders from My Nintendo Store were not guaranteed to arrive by June 5. With demand high, the company advised shoppers seeking the console on launch day to visit a participating retailer. In April 2025, the Associated Press also reported that preorder listings at several retailers quickly became unavailable.

Was getting one on launch day easy?
Not necessarily. Best Buy and Target offered ways to try for a walk-in purchase, but both described limited stock, and neither national announcement guaranteed a console at every store. Nintendo’s warning about delivery and the quick disappearance of some preorder listings underscored the uncertainty.
Nintendo later reported that more than 3.5 million units were sold worldwide during the first four days after release, calling it the highest global first-four-day sales level for any Nintendo hardware. That figure shows strong worldwide demand; it does not reveal whether a specific U.S. store had a console available at a particular time.

What did the launch lineup include?
Nintendo said more than 20 titles were available on launch day. That gave buyers a range of games to consider alongside the console, but the figure does not indicate that every title was stocked at every retailer.
What this means for buyers now
The June 5, 2025 schedules and prices above are historical. They should not be used to plan a current store visit or infer present availability. For a purchase today, check a retailer’s own product page or contact the local store for its current stock and sales procedure; the launch announcements do not establish either.
