Ghost of Yōtei is the next game in Sucker Punch’s Ghosts series, but it is not a direct continuation of Jin Sakai’s story. It introduces Atsu, a new protagonist, and takes place in 1603 around Mount Yōtei in Ezo—present-day Hokkaido. The PS5 game launched October 2, 2025; a Complete Edition was announced for October 1, 2026.
Is Ghost of Yōtei a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima?
It is a successor in the series, not a plot sequel. Sucker Punch says the two stories are unrelated, so you do not need Jin Sakai’s story to understand Atsu’s. The studio describes the new game as a follow-up in spirit: it carries forward the series’ focus on roaming as a warrior in feudal Japan, exploring freely, and taking in the landscape, while shifting attention from Jin and Tsushima to the idea of the Ghost itself.

Who is Atsu, and when does her story take place?
Atsu is the new central character. Sucker Punch places her journey in 1603, more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. The setting is the land around Mount Yōtei, a peak in Ezo, known today as Hokkaido.

The studio frames 1603 Ezo as outside Japan’s rule and describes a landscape of grasslands, snowy tundra, and danger. That is the game’s setting as presented by its developer, rather than an independent account of the region’s history.
Is Ghost of Yōtei on PS5?
Yes. Ghost of Yōtei launched for PS5 on October 2, 2025, according to PlayStation’s launch announcement. PlayStation describes it as an open-world adventure, with Atsu’s quest, weapons, personalization, and special modes among the features highlighted in its gameplay-preview announcement.

What to know about PS5 Pro graphics
Sucker Punch says the game uses ray tracing for global illumination and PSSR upsampling. On PS5 Pro, players can enable ray-traced global illumination with a target of 60 frames per second. That target is specifically stated for PS5 Pro with the feature enabled; it is not a general performance claim for every PS5 model. PlayStation announced the Complete Edition for October 1, 2026. Its announcement lists the main game and Ghost of Yōtei Legends, along with the new Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted content arriving with the October 1 patch. PlayStation listed the US Complete Edition price as $69.99 and the upgrade for existing owners as $14.99; these are announcement prices, so check your region and current store listing before buying.

The free update features are separate from the Complete Edition’s paid content: PlayStation says they are available to all game owners. The announcement says a physical Complete Edition would launch October 1; it notes October 2 timing in some territories, including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Check local listings for format, contents, price, and availability.

Which edition should you choose?
- Already own the game: Compare the announced $14.99 USD upgrade with the cost of the full edition; the upgrade is the option PlayStation listed for existing owners.
- Want the additional story and combat content: Look for Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted in the Complete Edition or upgrade listing.
- Only want the announced quality-of-life or accessibility additions: PlayStation says the listed free patch features go to all owners, without the Complete Edition upgrade.
- Prefer a disc: A physical Complete Edition was announced, but verify retailer stock and the local package details before purchasing.
