In July 2011, Zynga partnered with Amman-based Gate2Play to distribute prepaid Zynga Game Cards across 16 Middle East and North Africa markets. The reported launch offered physical cards through retail stores and electronic e-PINs, with denominations of $2, $5, and $10. The announcement is historical: available sources do not establish whether the cards or Gate2Play program remain available today.
What were Zynga Game Cards?
They were prepaid cards or electronic codes that players could use to buy digital goods in Zynga’s online games. GamesBeat reported on July 28, 2011, that Zynga chose Gate2Play, a payment company based in Amman, Jordan, to distribute the cards in the region. GamesBeat’s launch report quoted Gate2Play chief executive Muhannad Ebwini describing the region’s growing social-gaming market as a significant opportunity for both companies.
A contemporaneous July 29 report named Empires and Allies, CityVille, FarmVille, and Mafia Wars as games where the cards could be used for virtual goods. These were examples reported at the time, not a current list of compatible games. The24X7News account also described both physical cards and virtual e-PINs.
Which countries were included in the reported launch?
GamesBeat named 16 markets: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. It reported card values of $2, $5, and $10. Those country and denomination details describe the 2011 announcement, not a verified present-day offer.

Could players buy the cards as e-PINs?
Yes. The 2011 coverage described two purchase channels and delivery forms:
| Purchase channel | Delivery form | What the 2011 reports said |
|---|---|---|
| Retail stores | Physical prepaid card | GamesBeat reported distribution through thousands of stores across the 16 named countries. |
| Electronic distribution | Virtual e-PIN code | The reports described e-PINs sold electronically; they did not establish a distinct price or different redemption eligibility for this format. |
The reports framed prepaid cards and e-PINs as alternative ways to pay for in-game goods where credit-card payment was described as less common. The24X7News attributed that characterization to Gate2Play CEO Muhannad Ebwini, who also mentioned small-value prepaid cards, bank transfers, and SMS or mobile payment as preferences among many online users. This was an executive’s description in a 2011 report, not a measured statistic about the region.

Can players still buy or redeem a Zynga Game Card in the Middle East?
The available sources do not establish whether Gate2Play-distributed cards remain on sale or redeemable in any of the listed markets. Zynga’s posted Game Card Terms describe conditions for card codes in Zynga’s policy framework, but do not confirm current MENA retailer inventory, participating games, or an active Gate2Play program. GamesBeat’s page is labeled as updated June 18, 2025, but its launch account concerns the 2011 announcement.

The terms page carries a 2021 copyright notice. It says an electronic card code grants a limited license to use virtual currency in participating Zynga games, and each code must be redeemed in one transaction. The page also says:
