Free Fire 1.90.1 and Free Fire MAX 2.90.1 are the May 2022 Rampage update builds—not current versions. The update added the M24 sniper rifle and changed character skills, Clash Squad, Battle Royale, team communication, Craftland, and MAX performance. If you want to install the game now, use Garena’s current official download route or the relevant regional app store; the sources available do not verify an official archive for these exact 2022 APK files.
When were Free Fire 1.90.1 and Free Fire MAX 2.90.1 released?
The Rampage update became available on May 25, 2022, according to AndroidSage’s dated update report. A new Clash Squad season was due to begin the following day. APKMirror also lists Free Fire MAX 2.90.1 as released May 25, 2022, in its Free Fire MAX release history.
These numbers identify historical builds. They should not be treated as the current Free Fire or Free Fire MAX versions: Garena’s site showed OB55 patch notes dated September 10, 2026, and APKMirror listed MAX 2.131.1 dated September 1, 2026, in the materials checked on October 8, 2026.
How to download Free Fire or Free Fire MAX today
For a current installation, start at Garena’s official Free Fire site and follow the download option for your region, or use the official app store available in your region. The available sources do not establish that Garena provides an official archive for Free Fire 1.90.1 or Free Fire MAX 2.90.1. Avoid treating an unofficial APK mirror as a current Garena-recommended download.

What changed in the Rampage patch?
Garena’s Rampage patch was a broad update rather than a single event addition. Its notes cover character ability balancing, mode and map adjustments, weapons and loot, communication tools, rank protection, Craftland creation, and MAX-specific performance changes.

Battle Royale: M24, airdrops, and loot
The patch introduced the M24 as a light sniper rifle. Garena’s published in-game specifications were base damage 88, rate of fire 0.8, and magazine size 15; these are game values, not real-world measurements. In Garena’s Rampage patch notes, the weapon is described as: “The M24 is a light sniper rifle that has high mobility and fast firing rate, enabling you to efficiently snipe enemies from far away.”
Airdrop visual cues were updated to help players distinguish looted drops, find pending drops, identify rare loot, and notice drops that had not been looted. The patch also changed some vending-machine stock, increased the Med Kit quantity by 15%, reduced ground-spawn Gloo Walls by 10%, and adjusted safe-zone damage timing and values. Those percentages describe in-game patch changes.

Character skill balancing
Garena adjusted a range of character abilities, including Alok, Skyler, Steffie, Chrono, Kenta, Xayne, Clu, Wukong, Misha, and Nairi. This was a broad balancing pass across the roster; the key takeaway is that the update changed existing skills as well as adding content. Consult Garena’s official patch notes for the individual level-by-level values.
Clash Squad: spawn points and armor upgrades
Clash Squad received changes to some map spawn points and cover placement. The CS Store also gained armor upgrades: an owned level-2 vest could be upgraded to level 3 for 600 CS Cash, and helmets could be upgraded to level 3. The 600 CS Cash cost is an in-game specification from the patch notes.

Communication, gunfire alerts, and rank protection
Players could pin locations that appeared on the minimap, place pins while knocked down, and use adjusted team-marker and quick-message notifications. An optional visual alert could indicate the direction of incoming gunfire when enabled in settings. Garena also described rank-point protection for losses its system attributed to a detected cheater.
Craftland creation tools
Some Craftland map and mode editing features that had been exclusive to MAX became available in Free Fire. The creator additions included Isle of Champs scenery, interactive zombie and tower items, more free map slots, and beta FF Craftmate block-coding and debugging tools. Garena specified that some Craftmate tools would become available beginning June 2, 2022, at 12:00 GMT+8.

Free Fire MAX file size and performance
Garena said the MAX update reduced file size and lobby performance drain, and reduced glitches and device overheating during matches while retaining resolution. It also moved selected resources—including Lone Wolf, events, Alpine, and some collections—into the Download Center. These are publisher-stated improvements; the patch notes do not provide independent device benchmarks or quantified performance results. Garena framed the work this way: “We recognize that Free Fire Max’s HD graphics could cause a major burden to your mobile devices.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you install the 2022 Rampage APK?
For most players looking to play now, the practical choice is to install the current client offered through Garena’s official route or a regional app store, rather than seek out a 2022 APK. The old version numbers do not confirm present-day availability, compatibility, or account behavior. The Rampage notes remain useful as a record of what changed in that historical update, but they are not installation guidance for a current version.
