He initially helps the player with information about Shardbearers, but later becomes a boss in Leyndell, Capital of Ash. His stated aim is to become Elden Lord, and he pursues knowledge as a means toward that goal.
Who is Gideon Ofnir?
Gideon is a senior figure at Roundtable Hold. After the Two Fingers recognize the player, he welcomes them as a member of the group. Before that recognition, his dialogue treats a newly arrived Tarnished as a visitor and “house guest,” suggesting a guarded, hierarchical approach to the Hold’s newcomers. The character reference describes him as a Tarnished known as the All-Knowing.
What does Gideon want?
Gideon says he wants to stand before the Elden Ring and become Elden Lord. He explains that he is gathering knowledge toward that ambition: “As a Tarnished who wishes to stand before the Elden Ring and become Elden Lord, I am accumulating knowledge. To be all-knowing.” The line is transcribed in Eldenpedia’s character entry.
His role at Roundtable Hold makes that pursuit practical as well as aspirational: after the player has acquired a Great Rune, he offers information about the Shardbearers. The sources establish his information-gathering and ambition, but do not provide an official explanation that settles every aspect of his motives.

Why does Gideon become an enemy?
Gideon’s title suggests mastery of knowledge, but the All-Knowing Armor description complicates that image. It says, “Knowledge begins with the recognition of one’s ignorance. The realization that the search for knowledge is unending.” It then says that when Gideon glimpsed Queen Marika’s will, “he shuddered in fear. At the end that should not be.” The description is reproduced on Gamer Guides’ All-Knowing Set page.
Read together, the dialogue and armor text present knowledge as both Gideon’s route to power and something that exposes him to truths he fears. That is a thematic interpretation of the text, rather than a stated official account of why he opposes the player.
