The other February 2026 reveal, God of War Sons of Sparta, is already available on PS5: a canon 2D action platformer about Kratos and his brother Deimos during their Spartan training.
What was announced?
Two distinct God of War projects were revealed during PlayStation’s February 2026 State of Play: a remake of the original Greek trilogy and Sons of Sparta, a new game that launched for PS5 around the time of the announcement. The remake is a future project with few details; Sons of Sparta is the playable release with an official premise, features, editions and modes.
When will the God of War trilogy remake come out?
There is no announced release date or release window. Santa Monica Studio confirmed that the original trilogy is being remade and described the project as “still very early in development.” Grace Orlady, the studio’s communications director, wrote: “This project is still very early in development, so we ask for your patience as it will be a while before anything else can be shared.” Santa Monica Studio’s announcement also featured TC Carson, the voice of Kratos in the Greek saga.
The announcement does not specify platforms, gameplay changes, the remake’s format beyond remaking the trilogy, or a complete cast. Those details should not be assumed until the studio confirms them.

What is God of War Sons of Sparta?
Sons of Sparta is a canon story about young Kratos and his brother Deimos training at the Spartan Agoge. They travel through Laconia and face threats that test their training, as well as their ideas of duty, honor and brotherhood. PlayStation describes it as a 2D action platformer that reframes the series’ Greek-mythology setting in a pixel-art style.
Combat and exploration
PlayStation’s official feature describes spear-and-shield combat, customizable attachments, skill trees for offense, defense and movement, and divine artifacts called Gifts of Olympus. The game also includes optional quests, hidden encounters and loot, with familiar creatures from the Greek games alongside new beings drawn from Greek mythology.

Bear McCreary composed the score, which PlayStation says combines retro aesthetics with orchestral and choral elements. The same feature identifies TC Carson as adult Kratos, narrating the story; Antony Del Rio as young Kratos; and Scott Menville as Deimos.
Is Sons of Sparta on PS5, and when did it launch?
Yes. Sons of Sparta is a PS5 game. PlayStation’s February 12, 2026 announcement and State of Play recap presented it as available that day, while the official US product page lists February 13, 2026 as its release date. The official sources do not explain the one-day difference, so February 2026 is the clearest date to use without market-specific context.
