The Golden Rod is an Enchanting tool in WoW Classic: Season of Discovery. Keep one if you are leveling Enchanting: the Season of Discovery guide’s progression uses it to craft a Runed Golden Rod at skill 155–156. Blacksmiths make the base rod from a Gold Bar and two Coarse Grinding Stones.
What the Golden Rod is used for
The item is labeled “Needed by Enchanters,” and Enchanting recipes require a rod in the character’s inventory before they can be cast. Blizzard’s World of Warcraft Game Manual states: “All enchanting recipes also require that you have a rod in your inventory before you can cast them.”
For the leveling route in Wowhead’s Season of Discovery Enchanting guide, the Golden Rod is also a crafting ingredient: at Enchanting skill 155–156, you use one to make a Runed Golden Rod. Retain it until you reach that step if you are following the route.

The spell creates a Golden Rod. Wowhead’s item reference lists its item level as 30; that is the item’s in-game level, not a character-level requirement.
When to use it for Enchanting progression
In Wowhead’s Season of Discovery Enchanting guide, updated 2025-04-07 and labeled Patch 1.15.8, the Runed Golden Rod craft appears in the 135–225 progression section at skill 155–156. It requires:
