To get the Great Rod of Oscar in Fisch, complete Dead Man Joe’s quest at Forsaken Shores, retrieve the Amulet from the Grand Reef, then take the equipped Amulet through the underwater route to Oscar’s Locker near Terrapin Island. Current item and progression listings put the purchase gate at Level 250 and 2,500,000 C$.
What you need before the trip
- Reach Level 250 and have 2,500,000 C$ available; these are the purchase requirements listed by the Fisch Wiki and Fisch Atlas.
- Complete Dead Man Joe’s quest and keep the Amulet.
- Equip the Amulet before entering the underwater route. The Fisch Wiki and AllThings. How describe it as necessary for passing the barrier and protecting against decay.
- A Submarine is the guide’s recommended way to reach the underwater area. AllThings. How also mentions Advanced Diving Gear as an alternative; treat that as reported guidance, not a confirmed official requirement.
How to unlock the Great Rod of Oscar
-
Find Dead Man Joe at Forsaken Shores
Look in the central cavern or skull structure near wreckage. Speak to Joe to begin the Dead Mans Tale quest.
-
Retrieve the Amulet at the Grand Reef
Travel to the Grand Reef and search near the central island’s wrecked or broken boat for the Amulet. Collect it, then return to Dead Man Joe.
-
Return the Amulet and equip it
Give the Amulet to Joe as the quest directs, but retain it and equip it before going underwater. The guides report that entering without it leaves a translucent green barrier blocking the way and exposes the player to decay.

-
Buy the rod
At Oscar’s Locker, purchase the Great Rod of Oscar once you meet the listed Level 250 and 2,500,000 C$ requirements. The step-by-step guide and progression listing both identify the Locker as the destination. The Fisch Wiki’s location field and other text do not fully agree, so rely on the described underwater route rather than assuming the rod is sold at Forsaken Shores.

Great Rod of Oscar stats
The September 25, 2026 Fisch Wiki item listing gives the following values. AllThings. How lists the same headline stats. These are published in-game values, not independently tested performance results.
| Stat | Listed value |
|---|---|
| Lure speed | 95% (Fisch Wiki, 2026) |
| Luck | 280% (Fisch Wiki, 2026) |
| Control | 0.1 (Fisch Wiki, 2026) |
| Resilience | 20% (Fisch Wiki, 2026) |
| Maximum fish weight | 100,000 kg (Fisch Wiki, 2026) |
| Listed cost | 2,500,000 C$ (Fisch Wiki, 2026) |
| Listed level requirement | Level 250 (Fisch Wiki, 2026) |
The combination points toward fast bites and high luck, with a substantial trade-off in handling: the listed control and resilience are low. Its 100,000 kg capacity is a separate consideration if your route depends on heavier catches.

Passives and the Oscar mutation uncertainty
The Fisch Wiki and AllThings. How describe a +30% progress speed bonus and a 1.35x XP multiplier. However, the mutation chance is inconsistent: the Wiki’s quoted item description says 5%, while its passive table says 20%; AllThings. How also reports 5% in parts of its guide. The available listings do not resolve the disagreement, so verify the live item description in-game rather than treating either percentage as settled.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is it worth pursuing, and how should you build it?
The rod makes most sense if its listed luck, lure speed, or XP and progress bonuses fit your immediate goal and you are willing to complete the quest and pay its listed price. Its low control and resilience may make it less attractive when handling is your priority. Fisch Atlas cautions that progression advice reflects a particular update snapshot, not a permanent ranking; compare rods by unlock effort and cost, lure speed, luck, control, resilience, weight capacity, and the route you plan to fish.

These are guide recommendations, not a verified optimal build. Any unusually large combined XP multiplier depends on multiple buffs and conditions such as a perfect catch, gamepass, or event; it is not a baseline guarantee.
