When did Directive 8020 release?
Directive 8020 released on 12 May 2026. Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe confirmed the launch on that date in its official launch announcement. It is therefore out now rather than awaiting a release date.

What platforms is Directive 8020 on?
The confirmed platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam. The publisher announced physical and digital editions for the two consoles; Steam is the confirmed PC storefront and digital format. The platform and format details were announced by Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe.

Are Directive 8020 pre-orders still live?
No. Pre-orders were a pre-release option and are no longer the current way to buy the game. The publisher’s February 2026 announcement offered a free Deluxe Edition upgrade with PS5 and Xbox pre-orders while retail stocks lasted. That was a time-limited promotion, not a guarantee attached to copies bought after launch. The announcement is available in the publisher’s pre-order notice.
What kind of game is Directive 8020?
Directive 8020 is a sci-fi survival horror narrative adventure and the latest entry in The Dark Pictures series. The story follows the crew of the colony ship Cassiopeia after it crash-lands on Tau Ceti f. They encounter an alien organism that can mimic its prey, forcing the crew to survive and decide whether to risk themselves to save humanity. The publisher’s launch announcement describes the premise and introduces the game with the line, “In space, death takes many forms.”

How can you play?
Bandai Namco described single-player and couch co-op for up to five players at release, alongside a branching narrative, a story tree that maps decisions, Turning Points that let players revisit key choices, and Survival Mode. These are features described in the publisher’s pre-launch announcement. That announcement does not establish online multiplayer availability, so couch co-op should not be confused with online play.
