To qualify, a 2021 walkthrough says to collect Terendelev’s Scale and Claw, show both to the Storyteller, then spare cultists at Terendelev’s Lair and choose kindness when Hal appears later. The path combines a dragon form and breath weapon with powerful defenses and a redemption-focused story.
What is the Gold Dragon mythic path?
Gold Dragon is one of the mythic paths in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Owlcat Games frames it as a path where great power need not mean indiscriminate destruction: its official description emphasizes redeeming those who faltered and guiding those who are lost (Owlcat Games).
In play, the path is more than a shapeshifting option. Its progression includes defensive and attribute improvements, immunities, a holy-energy breath weapon, spells, and Gold Dragon Form. The specific abilities and values can vary by game version, so check the abilities shown in your installed game before planning a build.
How to unlock the Gold Dragon path
The route below follows Pro Game Guides’ walkthrough, updated September 7, 2021. It describes steps that establish eligibility for a later path choice; you do not need to select Gold Dragon at the first mythic-path decision. Because this is an older guide rather than an official quest database, confirm quest choices against a current reference if you are using a newer patch or mods (Pro Game Guides walkthrough).

What abilities does Gold Dragon get?
The community-maintained WotR Database describes a progression built around three stages of enhanced body, mind, and soul, alongside breath upgrades and dragon form. Exact numerical values and interactions are version-sensitive; use the in-game ability descriptions as the authority for your current campaign (WotR Database, Mythic Paths).
Rank 1: Perfect Body and breath
The database lists immunities to poison, disease, fear, confusion, paralysis, and sleep, plus energy resistance, better saves and attributes, d12 hit dice, and a +5 weapon treatment. Gold Dragon Breath is a cone of holy energy; its cooldown improves as the character advances.

- The Abyss awaits! When the city of Kenabres is destroyed by a horde of demons, only you can save the world!
- Travel to the Abyss to battle the malevolent minions of the demon lord Deskari

Rank 2: Perfect Mind and dragon form
Perfect Mind adds immunity to mind-affecting effects and spell resistance. The database also describes damage conversion to holy energy—or unholy energy for a Dahak follower—and broad skill and attribute benefits. Gold Dragon Form grants a dragon body with enhanced Strength and Constitution, armor, blindsense, and bite, claw, wing, and tail attacks.
Rank 3: Perfect Soul and later breath choices
Perfect Soul adds further energy and negative-energy immunities and empowers or maximizes spells and abilities, with additional damage scaling. The database says players choose breath improvements as they advance and gain another choice at mythic rank 10.
Spellbook revisions described in 2024
A 2024 developer-update report republished by Dev Trackers describes a new Gold Dragon mythic spellbook with 10 new spells, including Dragon Might, Summon Dragon, and Thousand Bites; some spells have corrupted versions for characters following Dahak. The report also describes changes to existing features, earlier access to some abilities, and empowerment or maximization at mythic level 10. These details are attributed to that update report, not to a separately checked live patch record (Dev Trackers, “Flight of the Gold Dragon”).
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Story, religion, and alignment
The route’s merciful choices fit its roleplay premise: the Gold Dragon can redeem rather than simply destroy. The 2024 update report says Owlcat added Apsu and Dahak as religion options during character creation, allowing an earlier draconic connection without requiring a dragon-themed class. It also describes two Gold Dragon-only story beats centered on redemption and says the corrupted Gold Dragon’s alignment was changed to Chaotic Evil.
Is Gold Dragon right for your character?
Choose the path for its blend of draconic identity, durability, and redemptive roleplay—not on the assumption that it is automatically the strongest choice for every class. The available mechanics references do not establish a reliable class-by-class ranking or prove that dragon form outperforms every alternative combat plan.
Quick Recap
- For roleplay: it suits a character whose story turns toward mercy, guidance, and dragon lore.
- For combat: expect a mix of breath attacks, a powerful transformation, passive defenses, and broad improvements rather than a single defining attack.
- For build planning: review the current spellbook and form abilities in-game, especially if your class plan depends on casting or specific attack routines.
- For path comparisons: weigh story theme, when the path becomes available, and its actual ability choices. The Enhanced Edition listing includes Gold Dragon among the game’s mythic paths, but that alone does not make it mechanically superior to the others (Steam Enhanced Edition listing).
