The “reportedly returning” claim was a prediction published before the planned shop date—not news of a current comeback. A later third-party catalog records another appearance on August 31, 2026, but that history does not establish whether the outfit is available now.
What happened in December 2024
On December 19, 2024, ComicBook.com reported that Fortnite leaker HYPEX had said Master Chief was scheduled to return to the Item Shop on December 23. The report described the outfit as having been absent since June 2022, for more than 900 days. ComicBook.com’s December 19 report
On December 24, Pure Xbox reported that Master Chief and other Halo items had reappeared. It counted a 935-day gap from the last appearance on June 3, 2022. The exact count can differ depending on how the first and last calendar dates are counted, but the key point is that the figure describes the 2022–2024 interval. Pure Xbox’s December 24 follow-up
What the 2024 outfit and bundle cost
ComicBook.com listed the Master Chief outfit at 1,500 V-Bucks and a bundle at 2,600 V-Bucks in its December 2024 report. The reported bundle included the Gravity Hammer pickaxe, UNSC Pelican glider, Lil’ Warthog emote, and Battle Legend back bling. These are 2024-reported prices and contents, not a confirmation of what a current shop listing would charge or include. ComicBook.com

Is Master Chief in the Fortnite shop now?
The available dated records do not confirm the outfit’s live availability on October 8, 2026. METAMMO, a third-party cosmetics catalog, lists August 31, 2026 as a later appearance in its shop-history record; that entry is historical information, not an official live listing. Epic says the Item Shop rotates, advises players to check again if an item is gone, and says Support cannot provide items or offers that are not currently in the shop. It does not give a guaranteed return date for a specific cosmetic. Check Fortnite’s live Item Shop for availability rather than relying on a past report or a third-party prediction. What happened to the Matte Black style?
In December 2024, Pure Xbox reproduced a statement attributed to the official Fortnite Status account saying the Matte Black style was no longer unlockable and was limited to players who had bought the outfit and played on an Xbox Series X|S before December 2024. It also reproduced a contemporaneous note that buyers could contact Player Support about returning purchases made that day without using a Return Ticket. Those statements describe the policy reported at that time; they should not be treated as confirmation of current eligibility or refund terms. Pure Xbox’s coverage of the December 2024 statements
