On the original Xbox One, Halo 5: Guardians can lower its render resolution in demanding scenes to help maintain its 60fps target. 343 Industries described the game as using dynamic resolution up to 1080p—not as sacrificing every aspect of graphical fidelity across the board. The later Xbox One X enhancement was described separately: 4K Ultra HD at 60fps, with more detail visible at a distance.
Does Halo 5 run at 60fps?
Yes. 343 Industries said it designed Halo 5: Guardians for a consistent 60fps gameplay experience across its modes. The studio described 60fps as a priority, supported on the original Xbox One by a system that adjusts render resolution to suit the demands of each scene. 343 Industries’ explanation on Xbox Wire was published on September 14, 2015.

What resolution does Halo 5 use on the original Xbox One?
343 Industries said the original Xbox One version can render at up to 1080p, with resolution scaling dynamically according to the scene. The developer did not publish a minimum resolution or a scene-by-scene breakdown, so “up to 1080p” is more precise than saying the game runs at a fixed 1080p in every moment.
Why can the resolution change?
The studio said that scenes with vehicles, visual effects, and combat can demand more from the hardware. In those moments, it can trade some render resolution to help maintain the 60fps target. Its stated rationale was to support large-scale encounters without reducing their scope or content simply to protect performance.

Does that mean Halo 5 sacrifices graphical fidelity?
Only in a specific sense: dynamic resolution can reduce image sharpness in demanding scenes compared with rendering those same scenes at a higher resolution. The developer’s account supports a resolution tradeoff, not a broad claim that every part of the game’s graphics is reduced. The available official information does not establish a minimum resolution, provide frame-time captures, or offer an independent image-quality comparison.
Is Halo 5 4K on Xbox One X?
343 Industries later described the Xbox One X enhancement as 4K Ultra HD while maintaining 60fps, and said it added detail at a distance. That is a separate platform-specific claim from the dynamic-resolution description for the original Xbox One. Xbox Wire’s November 6, 2017 interview with 343 Industries’ Chris Lee describes the enhancement.
