Halo: Campaign Evolved has no player-versus-player (PvP) multiplayer, but it does have cooperative campaign play. Halo Studios has publicly described the project as a campaign-focused remake designed to honor the original and bring players together through co-op—not as a replacement for the original or a competitive matchmaking game.
What kind of multiplayer does Halo: Campaign Evolved have?
The game supports cooperative campaign play: up to four players online, or two players in split-screen on console. Xbox’s current product page also lists online cross-platform play and cross-progression. These features let players experience the campaign together; they are not PvP modes or competitive matchmaking.
That distinction matters if you are choosing a Halo game primarily for online battles. Campaign Evolved is built around a shared story campaign, not player-versus-player matches.
Why did Halo Studios leave out PvP?
Halo Studios’ public explanation centers on the remake’s creative goals. Executive Producer Damon Conn said the team wanted to make a game that could stand alongside the original rather than replace it, while honoring its legacy with new tools and a fresh take. He also described expanding campaign co-op as part of that approach. Windows Central reported these remarks from a group interview.

In an official Xbox Wire interview, Conn said that focusing on the campaign lets the team concentrate on capturing the original’s atmosphere, tone, and emotional impact. Taken together, those remarks present campaign and co-op as the deliberate focus. They do not establish every production, staffing, budget, or technical factor behind the decision, and Halo Studios has not publicly detailed those considerations in the cited material.
What is being remade?
Campaign Evolved is a ground-up remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign, rather than a remake of its multiplayer offering. The current Xbox product listing says it includes remade versions of the original ten missions plus three new missions, alongside gameplay updates. Xbox lists 42 Skulls as another feature of the game.

When did it launch, and where is it available?
The current Xbox product page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists a July 28, 2026 launch and availability on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. The earlier Halo Waypoint announcement also named Steam and PlayStation 5, but announcement-era plans are not confirmation of present store availability. Check the relevant platform store for current listings.
Xbox Wire also described a Collector’s Edition with a physical disc for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, plus collector’s items. That confirms a physical-product option was announced, but not its current retail stock or price.
